It was a nice tour but when you see one mansion, you have seen them all. Didn't need to see the same homes by land then by sea. It was a slow tour overall and not all that interesting. The tour guide was good, but there isn't much to really talk about during the trip. The exciting part was the many dolphins (50?) that were unexpectedly in the bay and swam & jumped around our boat & seemed to enjoy the attention. The captain said it was unusual to see that many in the bay this time of year (Oct.) I was glad I was in the right place at the right time! Read Less

Newport was easy to walk around, no need for a tour. There were a lot of gift shops and clothing stores right by the dock. We followed a walking map to the old church, where a lady volunteer gave us a guidebook, and an explanation of some of the interior. There were notices around the town showing the dates and history of some of the older buildings, with drawings so you were sure which ones they were talking about. We had clam chowder in an Irish pub, and really enjoyed ourselves. Read Less

We did not go ashore for the reasons listed above. We were not called for the lighters until after noon, would have had little time ashore and would have wondered how we would have ever been lightered back to the ship before the 5:00 p.m. departure Many passengers also declined to go ashore under the circumstances. Of course, those who paid Celebrity for shore excursions went first. Due to Celebrity's poor boat handling, it was a dismal experience and a great pity. Read Less

Another port ruined by excess tourism - having spent much Navy time here, there was nothing new.

There was nothing really to see in Newport. Wasn't worth being tendered to and from the ship. Some family members got off and returned almost immediately. We enjoyed our time relaxing on the cruise ship.

Didn't do anything due to limited excursions. Too longer to tender 20-30 minutes each way. If the weather was bad it would be very hard to do.

(long) tender trip - 30 - 40 minutes. nice village many shops to see, few mansions to visit prices vary from 18$ to 35$ . Better do your homework before visiting any mansion. they are reasonable walking distance from the port

Newport, RI – another tender port, already toured on a prior cruise. This time we visited the Truro synagogue and the exhibits, walked on Thames Rd. and waited in a long line for the return tender to the ship.

We had booked an excursion but the stop at Newport was cancelled for "weather and safety" reasons. The sea was not so very rough - I think that the QM2 is too large a vessel for this port.
