Thought the shuttle bus would take us into the town for some shopping. It only dropped us off at the port gate. Only 'shopping' was for live and dead fish! Dead animal carcasses. Fruits and vegetables. It was a long, hot and sweaty walk into any kind of half-way interesting area. Most people just got back on the bus and went back to the ship. Read Less

tour guide was appalling. Left for almost 1.5 hours at the Souk. waste of time then were given 10 minutes in the museum and at the palace. Shocking.

Only the market near the port is good. We took a taxi to the hilltop for the view, then went to the palace, but it is PERMANENTLY CLOSED to the public. The museum opposite the palace is overpriced at 5 Omani rial per person, while local senior citizens get FREE entry. The beautiful mosque in Muscat is very far from the port & taxis wanted a whopping 20 Omani rial for a round trip! Read Less

the town section near the cruise port is the most interesting part (old souk, closed between 1:00 and 4:00 pm), I do not recommend to walk to the town 5 KM it has many Gov. buildings and schools , no commercial activities (practically no cafe no stores) and you the streets are empty. FYI you cannot walk in the port, a free shuttle will take you from the ship to an administrative building where you will go through a metal detector door, then get back in the shuttle to the port exit.ab: very small town, not much to see. If you plan to visit the mosque, need to cover from wrist to ankle (no sandals) and women hair must be covered. strongly suggest to purchase the shuttle ticket (sold 10$ pp by ship) the town is 5 km away but the bus did a few turns here and there ... can be a challenge to find the right road to town. There s a beach easy access, go right when exit the port, 5 min walk Read Less

Muscat try the souq at Muttrah avoid the Opera House unless you are into looking at new buildings and wanting to frequent a mall with Ott goids.

Muscat was not really on my list to want to go to & to be honest there wasn't really a lot to see. The Palace was nice to see but not a lot else. Again we took the hop on hop off but even that was a bit uneventful.

We were excited to be in a new country - it was the next port after Dubai, and we just did our own walking tour along the corniche to the interesting Souk. It was incredibly hot, it took a long time to get off the ship because there were limited shuttles, and most people couldn't wait to get back to air con. It was not such a great Port really, but hopefully they will improve access for ship passengers in the future, there did seem to be some improvements happening! Maybe! Read Less

We took the shuttle into the edge of town and walked round the seafront to the market. We got lost coming out of the back entrance but got back to the coast quite quickly.

I think it was here that the hop on hop off bus was ....€70 !!! A ridiculous price. We got driven about by a nice taxi driver who took pictures inside the mosque for me. A pleasant trip but not much scope to wander round
