Beautiful place. We couldnt believe how much colour there was. Flowers planted everywhere and all the bushes trimmed perfectly. The people were so very friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Had a wander around, easy to walk to, visited the Souk, then had a walk along Corniche for around 15 minutes, very attractive - water fountains, flower beds and a nice childrens park, a Portuguese Fort at the end that you can climb up.

We walked to the Mutrah souq on our own (easy walk...once you exit the port go left and continue walking until you seen the entrance to the souq) on the first day. On the second day we booked a rental car and took a taxi to pick it up at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel (about a 15 minute drive away -- we paid 5 OR for this taxi ride although the first drivers wanted 7 OR...given that if you are hiring the car by the hour it is 10 OR per hour for the first 3 hours we felt that 5 OR for 15 minutes was fair. If you plan to rent a car you may want to ensure that you pre-arrange a GPS (sat nav). We were lucky to get one. Read Less

Local taxi's were very reasonable at OMR10 per hour and in 3 hours you can pretty much see on the main sights. Lovely walk along the corniche all the way to Old Muscat in less than 1 hour.

the town section near the cruise port is the most interesting part (old souk, closed between 1:00 and 4:00 pm), I do not recommend to walk to the town 5 KM it has many Gov. buildings and schools , no commercial activities (practically no cafe no stores) and you the streets are empty. FYI you cannot walk in the port, a free shuttle will take you from the ship to an administrative building where you will go through a metal detector door, then get back in the shuttle to the port exit.ab: very small town, not much to see. If you plan to visit the mosque, need to cover from wrist to ankle (no sandals) and women hair must be covered. strongly suggest to purchase the shuttle ticket (sold 10$ pp by ship) the town is 5 km away but the bus did a few turns here and there ... can be a challenge to find the right road to town. There s a beach easy access, go right when exit the port, 5 min walk Read Less
