Atlantic Highway and Haholmen Island - HAL Tour We passed several dairy farms on the way that sell milk to the Jarlsberg cheese factory which our guide told us ships all its product to the US. The Atlantic Highway, a major tourist attraction, runs across an archipelago of partially inhabited islands and skerries with eight major bridges. Some of the bridges have multiple turns and switchbacks. It is often used for automobile commercials and is the site for several scenes in Bond 25. The highlight was our visit to Haholmen Island which started with a great ride on a “Viking” ship, accompanied by dolphins, in beautiful weather. Once on the island, we had a piece of cake, some coffee, and a Hansa Beer before watching a video of the Saga Siglar, a reconstructed Viking ship that sailed around the world before being destroyed in a storm off Barcelona. The remnants are built in as part of the theatre. Following the show, we walked around the island which offers accommodations and dining. On our ride back, we saw several quarries for limestone and granite. Read Less

Took city bus to Atlantic Road and then on to Kristiansund. A different route on the way back through the interior. An awesome trip - book ahead on the internet because a lot of people missed out. Very cheap as well.

Definitely select Geiranger with Trollstigen Pass. The views and tourist places we visited were outstanding and the dinner in Molde was very good.

The driving part of the tour was OK at best, but the highlight was the visit to the Romsdal folk museum presenting Norwegian rural life in the late nineteenth century.

Our bus ride took us first to the Molde Cathedral. Built with mosaics and stained glass accents. The grounds had lots of beautiful flowers planted in beds in front of the church. From there we drove to the open air Romsdal Museum. First we were entertained by children doing traditional folk dancing in their colorful national costumes. After that we wandered through 40 historic buildings that showed the development of this community from the Viking days till the 20th century. Our last stop was the Varden viewpoint which lies 1,300 ' above Molde. Read Less

Molde was an interesting spot...bigger than the places on Shetland and Orkney. Jazz Festival was happening...gave a bit of color to the experience.

A small boring town. We spent there a time waiting for a public bus to the Atlantic road. Please make sure to purchase the bus ticket in advance. There is no ticket shop at the bus terminal and the route is very popular. We bought a ticket with Framm app onsite and was lucky to travel by the first bus. Atlantic road is a place to visit. You can easily spend a whole day there - a very beautiful piece of nature with easy access by a public transport. We paid like 50 eur for the two round trip tickets. And for another 20 you could get the boat to the Haholmen island. That is way cheaper that HAL sells the same tour. Read Less

We both took a long day shore excursion from HAL called "Molde and the Troll Path" here. It was a long day, but didn't seem like it at all.The bus hopped on a ferry first thing, and drove first to a beautiful coastal road, stopping for a break on a stunning lake. The commentary continued about the history of the area and cultures who had inhabited the area previously, it's importance during WW2. Our stop for lunch was at a lovely very Norwegian place, Jordbaerstova, in the middle of strawberry country, and guess what was in season, yes, strawberries! On our way to the Troll Road, where we hiked a little above, took beautiful photos of the waterfalls, then DROVE the road, with it's switchbacks, then applauded our driver. The road and ferry back was very docile compared to the rest of the day, we were all pretty tired. Arrived back to town with about an hour to spare before sailing. Read Less
