Due to the price of shore excursions, we explored on our own, on foot. Pro's and con's of this is that you don't necessarily find everything, but equally you have your own unique day.

Fabulous city and the cruise dock is in easy walking distance of the city centre. Great sail in, past the Belem tower and under the Tagus bridge and sail out looking the other way to Lisbon’s version of the Christo Rei. Had a great self guided walking tour which took us to most of the main sites and sill left time for a leisurely coffee in the main waterside square and a fabulous lunch in the Petit Cafe, (highly recommended ) which is on the route from the Castle to the Cathedral. Fabulous place. Took open top bus but not great value. Wish we’d done one of the electric car tours. Spent 2 days discovering this beautiful place. Tip - go off the beaten track

Good location at the port to walk on our own. Our group did a Tuk Tuk tour and dinner out on our own that night. Our three teen sons were finally able to go out and enjoy some European night life away from Oceania.

Very hilly place. Lots of places to see and trips to take, museums, trams, etc. We took a Tok Tok from outside the port. Did a deal with the driver and he took us round all the places you can't get to on a coach. Lots of back streets and view points as well as interesting architectural features. We paid €80 which was cheaper than what was on offer from the ship tours and we had a nice big Tok Tok to ourselves rather than being crushed into a smaller one with another couple. Read Less
