We booked the South Mainland tour with Kittywake Tours and it was excellent. There were six of us in our group, all from the Queen Victoria. We had a fabulous day seeing beautiful local scenery and wildlife. I loved being so close to the puffins but equally enjoyed seeing seals lazing on a beach and stroking lots of Shetland ponies including foals. Kitty is knowledgeable, super friendly and eager to make the day work for you even asking for any advice on what could make the trip better. Read Less

Took included Panoramic tour, then there was a free shuttle to town. Easy enough to walk back to ship if you wanted the exercise. Saw the pony farm, brief stop but they are adorable. Nice shops in town.

Tender port. We had to show our passports to Scottish Customs as we disembarked. Tender arrived at Victoria pier which is downtown across from the Anderson Wool store and Captain Flints Pub. We were scheduled to be there from 8-4, but the last tender back to ship was at 3. However, six hours was enough time to explore the town independently.  Most of the shops in town are close to the tender port, and easily walk-able from Victoria Pier. There is a Tesco Supermarket a mile and a half away along the water side trail where you can stock up on snacks. The Broch of Clickimin is close to the Tesco. This same waterside trail in the opposite direction also runs out to “The Knab” which is a nice walk with some great views. Read Less

My first time here. It was like a small English/Scottish village. Nice waterfront trail. Zuiderdam had to tender, but that was easy with a sheltered harbor.

We found a cab. Considerably cheaper than the Oceania tour and much more flexible. I'd also suggest renting a car (do so in advance). Even if you are nervous about driving in the UK, traffic on Shetland Island is light.

We walked out of the port (shuttle bus to town centre was laid on however really not needed). Lerwick isn't the prettiest place and again... we should've gone on an excursion! The museum is amazing however!
