Charming with architecture and food market. You have to visit Ericksson's at the covered food market. They serve the best fish (salmon) soup we had in a very long time.

-If you don't use the ship's hop-on/hop-off bus excursion, there are still plenty of others waiting right outside the ship. -It's a scenic but very long walk from the port to downtown (and back). -We got to the Temppeliaukio Church even before it opened, and there was a long line to buy entrance tickets. The little gift shop across the street, Anne's, also sells entrance wristbands at no additional charge. We got ours there, and were first in the pre-paid line to enter, along with tour groups. -The buses were supposed to run every 15-20 minutes, but it was more like either 5 or 30 minutes between them. -Made it to the National Museum a few minutes before it opened at 11, very nice exhibits. -Walked down Mannerheim to Stockmann's department store, we picked up some unique food in the gourmet supermarket in the basement. -Went to both cathedrals downtown and the bustling outdoor marketplace on the waterfront, and got the hop-on bus there back to the ship. Easy bus ride or if you like walking it’s about 45 mins to the centre. Lovely town, plenty of history. Walk back to the shop along the coast and enjoy the views

Quite spread out so took a bit of time to get around on foot. Disappointing that the vintage tram only runs on Friday & Saturday so missed out on that but otherwise a nice city. Took the red sightseeing boat tour which was great.

The Hernesaari port seemed industrial but after we reach the road were right on the bay with the city in sight. Busses along the route were full with multiple cruise ships docking so we took a short pleasant walk into the edge of town where we were able to buy day transit passes at a convenient store. We visited the Market Square, Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, Lutheran Cathedral, Esplanadi, and Temppeliaukio Church. Read Less

My husband I got off the boat and walked into town. We shopped at the market for some souvenirs and wandered the square. It is a compact town from what we could tell with GPSmyCity so not a whole lot to see. It being Sunday the churches were closed to visitors during services which went on the whole time we were there. We loved the trolleys going through town and would have rode them around town which was a suggestion on a local map but we thought of it too late. We still had a really nice time and enjoyed talking to the people in the market. Read Less
