Did not take excursion as this port is easy to get around and most of the important sights are within walking distance.

Docked at Pier 20. Lots of shops inside the Cruise Terminal, plus a Farmers Market at the end of the Terminal building. There is a booth inside the Cruise Terminal as you walk in that sells HoHo bus tickets and various tours. There is also a visitors center booth as you walk in that can provide maps and suggestions for the day. They provided a walking tour map that we used to go though the high points of areas close by such as the Citadel, Maritime Museum, landmarks, and shopping areas. The boardwalk along the water was lined with shops, bars, food trucks and restaurants. We were here until 11pm, so there was ample opportunity to check out the local nightlife, but the Captain announced all passengers were onboard early, so we departed early as well. Read Less

Great waterfront walkways and attractions including a WWI sailing ship that took sailors to the battlefront 100 years ago. Halifax on a nice day, which we had, is delightful.

We rented a vehicle in Halifax and drove around to Peggy's Cove and then to the Titanic graveyard memorial. Our only mistake was reserving a car from Hertz. The rental location is two blocks from the terminal and was supposed to be open from 8AM to 5PM. Unfortunately, no one was in the office and the voicemail was full when we called the number on the office sign. I am a Hertz President;s Circle member and was surprised with this incredibly poor performance by Hertz. If the location isn't open, let us know or at least have the phone roll to a number at another Halifax location. We settled for a rental with Thrifty at the Westin Nova Scotian, which took almost an hour our of our port time due to the desk being staffed with just one person who had to deal with two parties who didn't know what they wanted nor had credit cards. Other than rental car problems, the scenery was brilliant. We were not able to make a trip to the Titanic Museum or Fisherman's Village due to the rental issues. The port staff were fantastic and efficient. Read Less

There isn't much to do in Halifax unless you book an excursion. There's no shopping near the port.

The fog rolled in. So I just went to the Mariner's Museum. Have been here before. Lots of interesting tours available. The Citadel (British fort) is very historic.

Although it was cold and rainy, we still took the opportunty to get off the ship and walk around the town. It seemed like everyone from the ship was in the terminal building shopping, so we walked down the harbour walk to the maritime museum and saw the Titanic and the Halifax explosion exhibits. It was very reasonable priced and the staff directed us to a local pub for lunch (The Triangle), which was excellent. Read Less

The options were great here, but I chose to walk to the Maritime Museum. For anyone with an interest in martiime history of the area, this museum is a must-see. I also had the benefit of finding a small gallery run by a Arts/crafts society of Halifax...very small but with exceptional pieces. Also got a close up view of some of the architecture in the port area and a very moving tribute to the immigrants who arrived in Halifax. The ship docked at the building that was once the "ellis isalnd" of Halifax and is now an important immigration resouce museum and archive. Read Less
