I took the Castle tour with Time on your Own. Excellent itinerary, and just right amount of time to see the Castle (not enough time to see Crown Jewels, but OK), and to walk around the city on your own.

For me, the highlight. So much to see so did Hop-on and dropped of to visitthe Castle. Dissapointed as Holyrood was closed because Queeen was coming to stay on following day

Took a shuttle to city center and did the hop on and off. Had lunch on the Royal Mile. While you are walking you feel like you are walking in a city from a fairy tale.

tour guide was excellent but there is no time for shopping on this walking tour. our time was limited in the Palace so we weren't able to see everything. this was my favorite place - just beautiful!!

Least favorite tour because of poor tour guide and big event occurring at the castle. Lunch was included and not good.

We took the HOHO bus tour which was crowded. There were 3 cruise ships in port so there were thousands of tourists milling about.

Charming, scenic city. Took an Uber to the train station to buy Hop on Hop off bus tickets. We made the full round, listening to an audio tour, then started round again, this time getting off by Greyfriars Church (had a tasty lunch at The Elephant House), Calton Hill, and the National Gallery. Took another Uber back to the port for the hours-long lineup in the rain to get a tender back to the ship. Our experience in Edinburgh was definitely colored by NCL inefficiency. (We were two and a half hours on board that morning waiting for our tender number to be called, and we were only in tender group 8!) Read Less

We docked at New Haven. Again the tendering was terrible, such a long wait. When I got to the dock I was asking for bus no. 11 to get me to Edinburgh but who knew there was express buses going to St. Andrews Square (GBP 4.00 return and I thought a bargain!) I had been to Edinburgh seven years ago. I thought Royal Mile was busy then, think there were 10xs as many people! I didn’t walk there very long, used the National Library of Scotland for WIFI quickly then decided to explore the New Town more before heading back to the ship. Back at New Haven I stopped at the Brewer’s faye pub/restaurant right there the dock for a beer (I tried Tennants beer established in1885) and used their WIFI. My timing was perfect getting back to the ship because after 4:00 I heard it started to get busy with long lines for tendering. Someone said they waited 2 ½ hours. Read Less

Take the bus into town and just walk to see the sites. Its a small city and eveything is close. We took the Red Hop on hop off bus and we could have done all that by foot.
