We did not do any of the ship's excursions, so walked to the port office and got the shuttle into Dunedin 20NZD return pp. It took 30 mins to get to the Octagon where we were met by friendly and helpful information centre volunteers. We connected to the free wifi then walked down to the train station which was quite charming. We also inspected the restored train engine nearby. As it started raining, we didn't walk to the Botanical Gardens, which we were planning on doing, but continued to walk around the city exploring as we went. Read Less

We did an excursion through an external company. Dunedin is a nice, very hilly city. I would recommend seeing Olveston House as it was beautiful.

From our designated seats we saw little on the way up the gorge. Passengers need to alternate seats on the return journey

We hired a car here (prebook!!) and toured the Otago Peninsular before heading into town for a look at the train station. There are several lookouts and a cool, but small, Maritime Museum in Port Chalmers where the ship docks.

Wonderful but messy boarding of the train. In addition, other passengers were taking all the tables by the windows with no consideration to the rest. Selfish behavior. The actual views and train rides were excellent.

Free public wifi by the octagon. Otago Settlers Museum was really interesting, and surprisingly free. Port Chalmers itself is very nice and I would recommend taking a walk along the water there.

During this ride, we got to see albatross, seals and more. The guides were good about spotting wildlife and pausing so we could get a look.
