Bused to Pompeii, kinda cool but it helps if you have a vivid imagination about what things might have looked like. Volcano is very far away considering that it buried the town. Then on to Sorrento with lots of OMG views from bus straight down to ocean 1000 feet below. Neat, scenic little touristy/souvenir town and reasonably priced. Then took high speed catamaran to Capri. Capri was the most beautiful place on our trip. Clear blue water, lots of OMG edge of cliff views (with fences), and lots of luscious plants, flowers, even cactus! Most shops closed from December to March when cold weather arrives. Many postcard views, souvenir shops and lots of inclines and steps. Overall, great scenic excursion... Read Less

The port I was the most looking forward to ended up being the most disappointing. We had our one and only rainy day here. The streets are beyond crowded and everything was so very expensive. I was prepared for the expense as I knew about it from my research. However, it was just annoying to see so many overpriced items. And shopping seems to be a big activity on this tiny island. We did go to AnaCapri and took the skyride to the top. Can't be upset by weather as it has to rain sometimes! However, the tour guide assigned to us (via the cruise) was absolutely terrible. It was obvious he had no real interest in his job and even left us behind on Capri. We had arrived at the meeting spot 10 minutes early and spoke to our guide to tell him we were there. He told us we had lots of time and in less than 4 minutes he was gone with our group. We hadn't even left the area! All the other tour guides the ship used always did a head count and took each passengers name and room number prior to beginning the tour. Not this guy. He was walking so fast through the streets that some of the guests had a hard time keeping up with him. There were so many tourists and so many vehicles when we first arrived that if I weren't so tall it would have been very difficult to even see him to keep up with him. However, I went to the onboard cruise desk when we returned and told them of our experience. They asked me to write down the events of the day and that they would pass along my information to the person in charge. By the end of the day I had a note from the ship cruise desk telling me they took our comments very seriously. Read Less

A relaying trip around the whole island. The boat was very open and informal. Our driver and guide share a very full narrative of the island and life here. This excursion does not include the Blue Grotto (and we chose it for that reason), but we were taken to 3 or 4 lovely grottoes on the back side of Capri. We were pleased with the more peaceful and quiet feel. We did wish the boat had a better PA system on it. Some of the narrative was lost in the noise of the engine. Read Less

Naples in the morning terrible but the afternoon in the ruins of huculana made up for it. The guide was good and the monuments spoke for themselves . Sadly the musuim was not open to the public but still work the money.

This was to be a half day tour, but at the last minute, it became a full day. We took a boat to Capri then a bus to Ana Capri. We were given two options, a chair lift ride to the top of the island or a tour of a museum. If one wanted to do both, there was an up charge for the additional ticket. We chose the chair lift ride which was breath taking! Next, we went to lunch at a local restaurant in Capri. It was not as good as the others we enjoyed in Rome and Florence. We then enjoyed a walking tour through gardens. While nice, it was not nearly as beautiful as other venues. After some time on our own, we took a cable car back to the marina, and then back to the ship just in time for dinner. The day was cool and partly cloudy, and I felt tired of being buffeted in crowds. We were definitely ready for a day off from tours. In fact, when an overweight man pushed his way into our already full cable car, leaving me next to no space to stand, I could only pray for a speedy decent, and couldn't wait to get back aboard the ship! Mid afternoon, the boat sailed for Capri, where we just wandered the town for a few hours. It was too late in the day to be able to do the Blue Grotto, an unfortunate fact. Many passengers suggested that a better option would be to have eliminated Ponza from the schedule and allowed a day at Capri so that the grotto might be included. Capri is beautiful, but expensive and full of tourists. Be sure to take the funicular (tram) up to the top to enjoy the breathtaking views. Read Less

We then went to little towns along the Amalfi Coast, and the final night in Sorrento. Positano was crowded, full of smokers, wall to wall people. But it was charming, the water was calm for swimming and it was our fault we wanted to enjoy an evening stroll, in August, on the Amalfi Coast! Kind of like any July 4th event at the Jersey shore......Ignore Capri and go directly up the mountain to Anacapri, and take the chairlift to the top of the mountain. Plan your shopping for ASAP in the morning, and prepare yourself for the most remarkable crowds of people. If you want to see a church, go to a store or buy anything go early!!!! We took only 2 excursions - one to the Blue Grotto on Capri. This was, and is, and always will be, one of the biggest tourist rip offs known to the traveling world. However, we couldn't resist seeing something that had been so universally panned - I can say with certainty now - ignore the Blue Grotto. Save your money. We also took the excursion from Sorrento to Pompeii - we were too tired to follow our usual independent streak. This was a very good thing because the traffic is horrendous, and we liked our guide very much. Naples is a polluted remmant of its past glory - It was August, in the Italian sea...of course there were crowds and everywhere was a happening place. It was pretty cool...... Read Less

Do capri on your own so you can see the whole island on your time. The blue grotto was closed the day we went due to rough seas sadly but it is still just a stunningly beautiful place.
