Bonaire was a lovely port. We got the yellow water taxi in the line up off folks offering services right off the ship and went on their first run of the day. It wasn't planned that way, it was sheer coincidence on our part. Apparently, on the first run of the day, the water taxi goes off to Spice/Cocoa Beach (it apparently has multiple names) then it head off to Little Bonaire, which is an uninhabited island that has excellent snorkeling. If you want, they will land the folks on the island and then take the folks who want to snorkel about a half mile up the beach and boot them off into the water. We took them up on this option and it was absolutely excellent. You do need to have your own snorkel gear, though, so be sure to pack it with you before you get onto the ship. We drifted with the current and there was loads of different corals to view and fishes to see. It was a lovely experience. The water taxi reappears every hour so one can choose when to leave. We drifted slowly so we weren't ready the first time it came back. We took it back to shore on the second reappearance and it was perfect. The water taxi was $15 for a round trip. After the water taxi drift snorkel, we walked through Bonaire town. As usual, the places further away from the ship had better prices. We picked up some souvenirs at an assortment of craft booths that were towards the middle of town. I suspect they have them there on ship days. Read Less

Visited attractions on our own, hiring a group van (taxi) on the dock for $25. During about 3 hours we enjoyed an informative tour. Visited almost the whole island with interesting stops: The salt flats and the history of the industry, slaves and the huts, actually beautiful, sparkling pink in the sun. Highest point on the island and a popular dive site with tons of iguanas. Stopped at Cactus Distillery for a taste. Learned of the culture of the island and about daily life. An extended drive took us to the flamingo and donkey sanctuary, the oil mixing facility, then drove by the beaches, where you can scuba and relax (if desired). Our driver stopped along roads to allow us to take photos. Baby green iguanas generally do not bite. Iguanas make intelligent, friendly pets. Unlike snakes and many other herps, iguanas can identify their caretakers, and some have remarkable personalities. Read Less

We rented golf carts with several other couples from the ship. We did the southern loop of the island in a caravan fashion. Visited the salt flats and the flamingo preserve as well as the slave huts. It was interesting and fun. Being in a caravan made us feel a bit more comfortable when we were setting up the trip, but it really wasn’t necessary. There was only one main road so there was no way to get lost, and the golf carts were in great shape so there was not much likelihood of having mechanical problems. Read Less

The good deal of the cruise. For a $2.50 cab/bus fare you get to Cocoa Beach. Put on your swim mask and snorkel and float in God's aquarium. It is just about as good a snorkel as Grand Cayman, but the beach with restaurant/bar and loungers, tables etc etc makes is a more pleasant experience. After a few hours there we walked the city near the pier and had a very good time. Maybe a little more research next time. Read Less

Look no further than bonairecruisers.com, ask for Debbie. Reserved in advanced two gas-powered golf carts. $100.00 for the whole day. Debbie was waiting outside the port, they have a tent, directed us to the rental place one block away. Had the most fun on our own. Drove to the salt flats saw lots of flamingos. Many buses with tours and excursions went by with other passengers that did not look as happy. Had enough time to drive back to the north side and snorkel on our own. - Highly recommended Read Less
