Just stayed in Warnemunde since Berlin so far, about 6 hours round trip by train. Just walked into Warnemunde and did a little shopping and hung out at beach bar right on beach close to water. There is a walk way out to the bar on the beach so you do not have to take your shoes off or get sand in them. Also climbed lighthousse tower for some nice views of area. Read Less

We did not go to Berlin, felt it would take too much time out of our day. Took the train to Rostock - 25 minutes - very nice quaint German City - really enjoyed it.

One of the highlights of the cruise and booked with TJ Travel which as I covered above was exceptional. Boris our tour guide was fabulous and for those thinking they don't want to take the 90 mins to Berlin from the ship, it goes by quickly, you have a stop plus you see the German countryside. We would not have missed this for the world and Berlin is an extraordinary city that is worth a visit by itself. Read Less

Warnemunde is a lovely seaside town. The ship docked 5 min walk to canal lined with restaurants and cafes. This was a nice quiet day after previous days of city sightseeing. The beach is broad and sandy and we spent the day wandering along the promenade and reading our books on the beach. Being the Baltic, the sea was a bit cold for a swim, and there was a strong breeze, but some hardy Germans did venture in! The beach has loads of beach shelters/deck chairs which you can hire for the day. Read Less

This port is actually 3 hours (by train) north of Berlin. So if you want to see Berlin, it is a minimum of 6 hours travel by train and can be a very long day. We opted out and plan to do a road trip of Germany in the future. We took a quick train ride to Rostock. Buying the train ticket was the most challenging part of the day. But with patience, it got done. It was nice not to be in a city (knowing many city ports were coming up) and just meander through a town. We walked to the main square and spent time in St. Mary's church, a 13th century church, worth the train ride alone. Although we did not opt to do so as our travel partners were tiring, there is time and we would have loved to grab a beer at one of the cafes in the square and just enjoy our time in Germany. We made up for it. We took the train back to Warnemunde (where the ship actually comes to port), a seaside village. Our travel partners returned to the ship and we strolled through the, busy/crowded, seaside/beach community, but it was nice. We climbed the lighthouse for a great view of the area, strolled the beach barefoot, and hit a cafe for a German beer, German Reisling and bratwurst before returning the ship. A lovely day and not chaotic. Read Less

We took the S-bahn to Rostock hoping to see the Stasi museum, but it was closed. It was still a short, enjoyable visit. We enjoyed the ocean resort town of Warnemunde more, though.

Warnemunde: It was a cool and rainy day. We walked to the train station (10 minutes) and bought a regional day ticket (€37 for 4 people). We took the train to Rostock and our initial plan was to tour downtown Rostock and then visit the castle in Schwerin. Due to construction on the rail line, we opted for plan B and headed on another train to Wismar, a Unesco Heritage site, well preserved and restored. We view exhibits at the tourist office, and stopped for coffee and cake at Café 28 near the market square. We strolled through the streets and viewed the old buildings then headed back to the train. The weather did not clear up for the evening, so we did not return to town for an evening stroll as we had hoped. Read Less
