I absolutely LOVE this quaint little harbor port. We walking the shore path trail along the bay and then walked up a side road to Main Street where plenty on shops waited for us to explore their treasures. there are some great buys in this town. It a very walker friendly town. On the return trip it was low tide so we were able to walk across the sand bar to one of the Acadia National park islands and hike to the top for a wonderful photo opportunity of the town, the harbor and Acadia National park. We also were able to watch the tall ship ship out of the harbor with full sails..... Breathtaking!!!! The ship also passes right by Egg Island Lighthouse for some excellent photo opportunities. Boring place. Rich cheapskate harbor. The city should pay for the tenders since they refuse to build a proper dock for the ship. Cruise lines should ignore and spend the day at Prince Edward Island.

The first port of call is Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (unlisted in the drop down so I selected something else). It was cancelled due to the weather.

This town has been ruined by excess tourism- the area: Mt. Desert is beautiful, but as New Englanders we have visited several times.

Bar Harbor - Unfortunately thanks to our lovely U.S. Government shut down, all of the tours to Acadia Natl. Park were cancelled - So we tendered into the town with 3,000 others and checked out the town shops and ate at a cute little local cafe and got the lobster roll we were promised to get on our tour. Super bummed out that our tour was cancelled as it was one of the main reasons we went on this cruise! Read Less

We stopped at Bar Harbor next and it was a major disappointment. There were two ships in port and at least 5,000 people in the small downtown area. It was like Disney World, only worse. It was obviously a very quaint, pretty town, but not with 5,000 people squeezed into the streets. We hired a cab to take us to the national park and the top of Cadillac Mountain. The weather was finally sunny, but very windy. The summit of Cadillac was extremely windy and we couldn't tolerate it for long. We had some very good clam chowder in one of the restaurants, but service was slow. Read Less

OK so what's all the fuss about Bar Harbour? The harbour area is quite picturesque but the rest is all souvenir shops! Try walking around the bay a bit to get away from the tourists!
