Bar Harbor was beautiful. We took a chance and rented a car out at the Bar Harbor airport. We booked a taxi in advance to take us out there and back. It was worth it. We did Acadia at our own pace and went for lobsters at Beal's. We stopped in a number of places and drive ourselves around at a leisurely pace. Read Less

With a 46` low temp that morning, I took a walk closer to noon after the tenders were opened up. It was good to know they had chartered local ferries, much more comfortable and faster to load. May have been possible because several tours had been cancelled due to morning chill and fog. I ate a warming bowl of lobster bisque, Yum! Renovations had been made along the seawall including a small sitting area with benches, a nice touch. Read Less

Although we had to transfer ashore via boats, it went very smoothly. We didn't do any excersions, just walked around town and then found a "local" restuarant away from the port for lunch, which made it more reasonable.

Bar Harbor is a beautiful, quaint little town. We enjoyed exploring the shops, and walking the Shore Path. We also walked to Bar Island while the tide was out.

This was a great walking around DIY town, though we did need to tender to it. Along the shore from port is a 45 minute bayside walk. I had “lazy lobster” ( shelled, drawn butter) at the unlikely fun Route 66 restaurant, with comfortable booths, 50’s memorabilia, and home made fries, not frozen. The ladies’ room was humorously demarcated with a frilly pink prom dress, mens with Castrol. There are fun shops, historic buildings, and most importantly, both ship and private excursion options to Acadia National Park ( I suggest doing it independently as I had done in the past, so as to savor) and other scenic areas. HAL cancelled our excursion. No big deal because we've been here before. Just strolled the Norman Rockwell-like streets and enjoyed a lobstah roll at a local pub.

Again we pre-purchased a tour of Acadia Park. You hook up outside of Testa's Restaurant. Ask for HEATHER! Don't forget to have a lobstA. CHARMING PLACE. Best on the itinerary.

Check low tide times in advance in order to hike on the Bar Island. I saw the tide came in and the sand bar could become inaccessible quickly. Read Less
