The best port on the entire itinerary. Acadia National Park offers plenty to see, and you can get around it for free using the Island Explorer buses.

I’m a confident road biker so I decided to rent a bike and ride up Cadillac Mountain and around the Loop road in Acadia national park. It was a great ride, but not something I recommend for novices or casual bikers, the carriage trails would be better suited for that. I got off on the first tender and went to “Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop” and rented a road bike. I believe this is the only shop in town that rents road bikes in addition to hybrids suitable for the carriage trails. The tender process was very efficient. The cruise had hired three tour boats for the process. The one I was on held about 80 people and there was a larger one that probably held twice as many people. I only saw the third from a distance, but it also held about 80 people. I didn’t have any wait to get to shore in the morning (albeit it was early, 7:30am) or in the afternoon (around 3:30pm). The rest of my group took one of the free city buses to Sand Beach. It was a bit of a wait to get a spot on the bus (~20 minutes). Sand beach seemed to be where the bus people suggested people go. The beach was nice and in the park. I think it would have been worth to go on a tour bus instead to see more of the park and use the time ashore more efficiently. I definitely need to get back to Bar Harbor to do more hiking and seeing the sights in the park. Read Less

My husband's favorite port. The Ocean Path is a must do in Bar Harbor. There is a church with Tiffany stained glass windows. I had a lady say she did a tour and was disppointed because they drove BY the church but couldn't go in. We went in and spent some time there. We got such wonderful pictures from the ocean path and from the promenade on floor 6. Be sure to be outside as the ship leaves, too, for even more views and pictures. Read Less

And finally, we went to Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor was a nice quaint town. We took a tour around the island. The tour was Oli's Trolley and admission was forty USD for adults and twenty USD for children under twelve. Our tour was the two and a half hour Acadia National Park tour. The tour stopped for fifteen minutes at the top of Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, and Jordan's Pond. We would've liked longer stay times at each of the stops, but that is reserved for the four hour tour. We loved the Oli's Trolley Tour, once again would highly recommend. Read Less

Did not take an excursion and we were not prepared for how cold this port would be in June. It looked beautiful from the ship however.

We took the Oli's Trolley 4 hour tour of Acadia National Park. We had 4 stops to get off and walk around for 30 minutes at each stop. After the tour, the tide was low so we walked to the sandbar. Very beautiful port.

We had a great lunch of mussels and lobsters right near the tender pier, then we shopped in the town. The National Park is great but we had been there before. All the stores and restaurants are right near the dock.

If you want to do a tour here, book from before. If you didn't, start early, leave the ship early, tours are long, or book fast.

Bar Harbor – went through the immigration process then lengthy wait for a tender (over 1 hour). Did a self-guided walking tour and spent time at the quaint public library to use the wifi service.
