Bar Harbour is beautifuuly situated with blue/green/ water surrounding the port. Lots of some boutiques to visit, as well as restaurants serving fresh lobster rolls.

From the Village Green, we took the free Island Explorer bus to Acadia. This place is breathtaking!! I can't recommend it enough. We bought picnic foods from Hannaford Grocery, so we were able to enjoy all our time in the park.

We didn't take a shore excursion here but checked out the port on our own. Many cute shops and lots of history right along the port. Great places to eat in the area also.

Free busses were very crowded and we were afraid to get off and not be able to get on another bus, so we just took a loop around the park. We were very sorry we hadn't booked an excursion with the ship.

Tender - No priority tendering for 4 and 5 star during the entire cruise! Half the passengers (700) were in this group. There is a free bus service within Acadia NP but you must pay to enter the park. If you have an Annual Pass, be sure to bring it with you to avoid paying the entrance fee. There are different bus routes within the park. Buses run often although you may have to wait 30 minutes for some routes. Basically, they operate as HOHO. Be sure of your timing so you get back to the ship! Read Less

The only thing we didn’t like is that the boarder patrol took up a great part of the morning. This limited the time we could spend on the island.

Tendering started at 7am and wasn't crowded except the return at the end of the day, 2:30 was the last tender run. The Arcadia National Park Tour Company has a 2 1/2 hour bus tour of the park that includes Cadillac mtn, the nature gardens, and thunder hole for $32. Get tickets at Testa's restaurant 2 blocks up Main Street from the dock and get on across the street. Lunch at Testa's was pretty good. Town is cute and clean, but Somewhat touristy. Try some blueberry soda, and blueberry pie, and blue berry scones etc. I live on the west coast. Our blueberries come from Peru. Apparently they also grow them in Maine. Useless Bar Harbor factoid: the biggest employer is a lab that breeds genetically modified mice for research. Read Less
