The port is right in town, so we walked around to buy tickets for the Explorer bus - $45 NZD each and were on the first bus. It was great to be able to see lots of Auckland, doing both the red and blue routes first up, then exploring areas of interest such as the Museum and War Memorial, Parnell Rose Gardens and into the city to see the Sky Tower and walk down Queen Street. The bus ticket also included the ferry to Devonport. It was a 15 minute ride and was calm and easy. It was a quaint little place where I walked around in the sunshine, checking out the little shops up the hill and found a lovely coffee shop to immerse myself in its ambience (and wifi). A short ride back to port and to the ship. Read Less

Auckland is one of my favourite cities - it is beautiful. We stayed right in the CBD and embarked in Auckland so we didn't do any tours here.

Our first really wet day. We walked into the city and did all the touristy things. The Sky Tower was the high lite even though visibility was limited due to the weather.

Didn't do an excursion. I met up with a friend who lives there and we hung out all day, her showing me the sights and us jabbering and catching up. Auckland seems to be a really lovely city.

Went to Waiheke Island on the ferry and enjoyed lunch at Cable Bay Vineyards. Dinner at Viaduct and a very fun 'Escape Room' experience on the charming streets of Auckland. Sofitel was a beautiful hotel prior to cruise.

There are two competing companies, Red Buses and Yellow Buses. Choose the Yellow Bus line that includes both the red and blue routes. Much better value.

We did an open top bus trip around the city - 2 x 1hrs covered by 2 different buses. There are 2 companies and they do the same routes and are the same price. Worthwhile especially if you don't want to walk too much.
