Freezing, wet and miserable and I'd been there before. P and O got an excellent downtown berth.

We arrived on Sunday and the town was literally closed. Aside from the 2-3 souvenir shops that were open and the one restaurant that was it. It's a beautiful city, but there was nothing to do there. We took the hop-on-off bus because it was pretty much the only thing to do. We can't understand why NCL didn't change their schedule or order of ports so that they would stop here when it was open. I can't imagine they didn't know the town was going to be closed because it was Sunday. That's just how most of Europe operates. Read Less

The port was simply a waiting room with a few chairs and a vending machine and toilets adjacent. No staff on hand for any questions or to direct us where to go when the ship arrives.

The most disappointing stop on the cruise, especially as it was a public holiday and most things were closed. We decided on the Hop On - Hop Off bus trip but this was a waste of money as there is a long interval between buses (45 mins). It was very windy at the top of the main viewpoint and as the cafe was closed and we could not face a 45 minute wait we braved the 418 steps down to the town. We do not think Alesund is a very interesting place, even if it had been open so wondered why this ws on the itinerary at all. Read Less

A port with basically one thing to do...go to look-out point on top of a mountain by bus. Town itself has nothing.

Nice open air museum a few kilometres from where ship is moored. Nice modern town as it was burnt down at the end of 19th century and had to be rebuilt.

We were going to take the hop on hop off bus but were glad we changed our mind. We heard from others that they were stranded at distant stops because the bus was full and no one was willing to get off. One couple were stuck an hour and a half. We did see some empty seats late in the day but they obviously sold too many tickets. We spent the morning in the Art nouveau museum and adjoining art gallery. The town had burnt down in about 1910 and had been rebuilt in Art Nouveau style which is explained in the museum. We walked the streets looking at the buildings and passed the cathedral which was closed. We found a trendy coffee bar overlooking the harbour and found tea or coffee are affordable compared to alcohol!! Read Less
