The ordeal started in port. The boat was six hours late to dock due to tropical storm Dorian...Ok, not much can be done about that except, maybe a heads up from NCL. Too much to ask for I guess. This trip was booked by a cancer foundation as a “wish” for my son who is battling leukemia. To console everyone for the late arrival of the boat, they offered a free bag of chips and a bottle of water. We decided to get out and walk around the city. After six hours of waiting, we were finally able to board the ship. After boarding the ship, we were told that we could not access our cabins because they were still cleaning them and they didn’t anticipate them being finished for another hour and a half. Again, okay, we’ll just try and find a place to dine.....of course, EVERYONE has the same idea which made some halls impassable and getting an elevator almost impossible (my child uses a wheel chair to get around). We finally get to a dining area and find out that if you don’t buy a drink package, a cup of soda is $3 per cup. I expected it to be a little inflated but goodness (I’ll chalk that one up to my own ignorance). So, we finally leave port and head out to sea at about 10pm. First night in the books and all seems well. Next day, we all awake and lounge in the cabin for a while and decide to get brunch, by this time breakfast is over. We head to the complementary taste restaurant and order. My son gets the shrimp pasta with red sauce (another round of 3$ sodas). We take my son and his brother up to the teen lounge and let them “lounge” while I go back to the room to fill out paperwork in anticipation of Canada, when I get the call that my kid isn’t feeling well and has been vomiting. We get him back to the room and try to use some of him medications brought from home to see if that would do the trick. Unfortunately, he was still vomiting and using the bathroom. In fear of dehydration, we take him to the medical floor. They give him IV fluids and insist on going thru their base clinic in Cleveland who instructs them to give him an antibiotic we’ve told them several times he is allergic to. My wife makes them call his on call dr (via Satellite phone) to direct them on exactly how to treat him bc technically once he developed the 102 fever they wanted him in a hospital asap but they keep him overnight. The next morning we are ferried off the boat to the post hospital for observation. The ship calls and instructs us to come get our baggage and disembark because they don’t believe he should be on the boat. All the while, we are in Bar Harbor, Maine and basically have to figure out how to get home only to receive multiple notifications that they’ve charged and MAXED OUT our credit card for their medical services and the 8 cups of soda to the tune of $8,000. I will NEVER take another NCL cruise again. I expected better! Beware, the shrimp and pasta with red sauce is a doozy! Read Less

We are experienced cruisers. We got together on a cruise ship. We even got married on a cruise ship. We chose this cruise because NCL always seems to have specials and we wanted to give them a try. The Sun seemed comparable to Carnival Pride. Moreover, the ship was leaving around the time of our first year anniversary. I really wanted to like this ship and this line. However, save your money, folks. This is the worst cruise ship we have ever been on and for the first time ever....we were bored. Let's start with the first day. People were so sloppy drunk, I thought someone was going to fall overboard. And the worst part? The drinks and most bartenders were terrible. The bartenders couldn't even remember drink orders. One walked away...out of the bar...after we ordered. The food in the main dining room and the breakfast was not good at all and it sits out way too long. Crunchy pancakes, really crunchy waffles, wilted bacon, etc. The salad dressings all tasted like mustard. The hollandaise sauce tasted like mustard. The pizza was burnt at the bottom. Stick with the food at the pub. We saw our housekeeper once. He never really introduced himself. In fact, the customer service severely lacks on this ship. It is almost like the staff doesn't care. Don't go to Guest Services if you have a question. They will not know the answer or will give you the wrong answer. Our tickets for our excursions were delivered AFTER the excursion. We had to go to the excursion desk to get them. Also, they changed our itinerary due to Hurricane Dorian which I completely understand. However, it doesn't appear that they are refunding our port fees for Grand Bahamas or Great Stirrup Cay. When you ask Guest Services they don't know anything which basically means no. The casino? We are big casino players. NCL won't be getting our money. Their minimums are too high. Their slots don't even let you connect with a game. It was awful. The specialty restaurants had great food. La Cucina had just splendid Italian that really hit the spot. The steakhouse is a must try. The drawback to these specialty restaurants? The service was poor. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks before we got them. We had to wait for 20 min for our cards to be returned and almost missed a show we wanted to see. There was a plus. The steakhouse did find out it was our anniversary and did a nice small cake. It was a really nice touch. We will be reluctant to try NCL, but if we do it will not be the Sun. Read Less

I booked 2 rooms, first time sailing with Norwegian, as our Carnival cruise was cancelled for weather.(sailed many times just not with Norwegian). Got to port and parking lot was full, had to lug bags 2 terminals away. Our Names weren’t on main manifest which we knew due to a late booking because of our cruise cancellation, the lady on the phone said we’d be on the updated manifest. We weren’t(after waiting through security just to get to them). We were escorted to the check in counter and final got our cabin numbers wrote on our boarding pass. Went through security AGAIN after finally checking our luggage. Went to check in to create our sail cards, our cabin was already checked into. Explained our luggage was going to the room they wrote on the boarding pass, Was told a supervisor would be notified so our luggage went to the correct room. Got on the ship, went to guest services and waited a long time(first day of cruise lines) per the suggestion of the guy checking us in just to make them aware, they too said they’d let a supervisor know. Luggage never showed up, we found it in the hallway of the wrong room they erroneously gave us. Meanwhile st the second room I booked, my mother’s luggage was delivered by a vacationer who had gotten it and was also looking for their luggage hoping it showed up to my mother’s room. My stepdad didn’t get his luggage it was delivered to wrong floor (foot 8 and we were on 9) until that night, they also got different luggage for another room and had to take to guest services and wait in that horrible line again. Not a fun time. The health questionnaire is a joke, there was a woman at the buffet sick and hacking everywhere, her whole group was telling her to feel better and get some rest. My fiancé got a horrible bug on the last day of the cruise and is still sick 5 days later. This was a birthday present for my mother’s 50th birthday and her first cruise ever and it started off pretty bad. The only thing that would truly make me book with Norwegian again is their housekeepers. Ours name was Gabriel and he was AMAZING, gave us tips for the ship and suggestions. Kept everything soooo clean! Was very accommodating. Kudos to him!!! Embarkation was seamless, we walked our luggage off, easy. Excursion was awesome, easy process too. Also in Key West I love how Norwegian had their own shuttles to take you to and from the main areas. Read Less

This was the BEST cruise I have ever been on!! All of the staff were exceptional and really helpful. We had lots of fun, saw and embarked on many different adventures, food was EXCELLENT in all of the restaurants and getting on and off the ship was easy as could be. Norwegian is the best cruise for the best price!! We had the BEST service on deck by the pool (Kevin Remy & Felipe), the best cabin steward (Gabriel), and we had a host of wonderful waiters and waitresses while dining. Both Crossings and The Palace restaurants offered amazing food and desserts and we were very well taken care of during our dining experiences. Our waiter Deyan was one of our favorites. We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet style breakfasts and the hours that the breakfast was available made it easy to eat breakfast anytime. While at the pool, we had a thoroughly attentive lifeguard (Dragan) who let nothing get past him. He was very helpful, attentive and carried on a conversation with the swimmers. He was VERY good with the smaller children who were swimming in the pool and sitting in the hot tubs. I have been on several other cruise lines and this was my first experience with Norwegian, but it will NOT be my last. I won't book with anyone but Norwegian again!! :) Read Less

Our house keeper Gabriel ensured our cabin is clean and ready to use. Melvin made our drinks on point. Our Children care personnel always had a program for the kids allowing parents to enjoy a moment without Children. Sailing was very smooth good job to the Ship Captains. Boarding the ship was very well organized. Entertainment for all ages was plentiful. Security when embarking and while on board was on point! All staff came from different backgrounds and individual staff had a name tag and a flag representing their country of origin. Good job Norwegian ship for hiring a diversified staff from all over the world. Safety equipments were readily accessible both in the cabins and in common areas making every one on board feel safe. My overall experience, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN!! Read Less

Alaska cruise was great. The ship was extremely clean, the staff goes out of their way to be friendly, The entertainment was good in quality of shows and variety. The cruise from start to finish was well organized. NCL made it easy to get on and off the ship. The two big disappointments on the ship were 1. The food served on board the Jewel was a huge disappointment. NCL does a lot of things right but because the preparation and food was so bad we will never cruise with NCL again. If anyone from NCL is reading this don't take our word for it pull up a chair and dine in one of your restaurants. . I recommend starting in O'shea's. The 2nd disappointment was the smoke filled casino. I understand there are plenty of people that like to smoke while they gamble and I understand that. There are also some of us that don't enjoy cigarette smoke. How hard would it be to reserve a small section for non smokers. Other cruise lines do a much better job in accommodating smokers and non smokers in the casino area of the ship. Our overall experience was great. We would not select NCL again on any of our future cruises for the reasons identified above. Kind regards, Kevin. Read Less

Our previous cruise was on NCL and in booking a trip to Alaska, we choose it again and were not disappointed. The NCL Jewel was updated last fall and feels like a new ship. Our mini-suite was perfect with a little extra room and full bath. We were traveling with our adult children, so it was nice to have the extra space when they visited us or used our balcony for glacier viewing. The staff are exceptionally friendly and are committed to providing a high level of service. While we don't have another cruise line to which we can compare our experiences, we are usually very active on vacations and were hesitant to even consider a cruise. We enjoy the "freestyle" options on Norwegian. Dining hours are flexible, you can find plenty of healthy options and the upgraded dining options are excellent and worth the cost. The thermal spa is an add-on, but is something you might consider--a peaceful getaway and great place to read while enjoying the gorgeous scenery from the front of the ship. And there are plenty of night life options for all ages. The promenade on Deck 7 is great for walking while enjoying 360 views. We saw a number of whales while walking the morning we entered the inside passage. We chose the one way trip from Seward to Vancouver. We arrived early in Anchorage and spend four days in Denali with a rental car. We then took a bus from the Anchorage airport to Seward to board the ship. The Bike, Hike and Float excursion in Skayway was our favorite and a great value. In Juneau, we were disappointed in the kayaking near Mendenhall Glacier (only an hour on the water and seemed to go in circles), but also had time for a hike to the top of Mount Roberts (and then took the tram down). In Icy Strait we walked to the nearby town of Hookah. Overall, a great trip and would choose NCL again. Read Less

Ship: The NCL Jewel did not disappoint. From start to finish this boat looked great. Never once did I see any aging on this ship at all. It was recently refurbished within the last year and is obviously maintained very well. Cabin: Our cabin number was 8088. Overall it was a good cabin but did get a little noisy at night. This was not because of any bars/ restaurants on the ship. It seemed to be some maintenance being done on the life boats or plumbing late at night. We were never really able to pinpoint exactly what it was. This lasted for the first half of the cruise and the room was perfectly quiet the rest of the cruise. Dining: Our experience on all the the Norwegian cruises we have been the same. The food was excellent. From the buffet to the specialty dining there was not one item of food that wasn't good. We ate at the main dining room, buffet, Cagney, Moderno and the on board hibachi grill. I highly recommend them all. Especially the premium dining options. Entertainment: The entertainment on board was also fantastic. This was our fourth Norwegian cruise and this was one of the reasons we switched from Carnival cruise lines (nine cruises). Carnival entertainment started to get very bad. Norwegian dominates in this category. This cruise included multiple shows including a cirque style show, aerobatics, comedian, and many more. Every single one was great. Service: From the moment we got on board service was above and beyond. As with all the other Norwegian cruises we have been on the service by everyone on the ship was excellent. Ports: First, I highly recommend this itinerary. Alaska is a beautiful place and these ports are all fantastic. This is our second time in three years and I want to go again. Seward: We took the train from Anchorage to Seward the day before the cruise. This train was great and I recommend this method of travel to the port instead of a bus. Once we arrived in Seward we took the 6 hour Kenai fjords cruise offered by Major Marine Tours. The weather was not very good this day but it was still an enjoyable experience. Hubbard Glacier: We arrived in the early afternoon. Get outside on the decks to get the best views. The Captain maneuvers the ship around multiple times so everyone can get a look. This is the most magnificent glacier I have ever seen and one of the largest in the world! Icy Straight Point: This is a small port with some shopping within walking distance. If you need assistance there is also a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes around the area. We did the two and half hour whale watching cruise and it exceeded all expectations. We saw Orcas, Humpback whales, Sea Lions and much more. Juneau: While in port we did the whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier. I also recommend both. We saw sea lions and humpback whales. It was a slow whale watching day but still saw multiple whales. Mendenhall Glacier has a very nice visitor center and multiple overlooks to get good pictures of the glacier. Skagway: Very nice town within walking distance. We previously did the White Pass railway. I recommend this if you have never do it before. This time we took a bus up into Yukon and got to further than the train goes. This was a nice shore excursion and it was good to see some new and beautiful scenery. Ketchikan: We did the Misty fjords by boat. This excursion is a long one but does not disappoint. Once in the fjords it is scenery that I would compare to the Fjords in Norway. If you have never been it is a must. Unfortunately it is a multiple hour boat ride both ways. If you do not like small boats this may not be for you. If your debating on whether or not to do this cruise, book it. This is an excellent vacation and Norwegian cruise lines is the way to go. Read Less

We are Platinum Latitudes - so we get some really nice perks -and we appreciate the extras that keep us coming back to NCL. Having been on just about every class ship we were excited to hear that the Star had been overhauled last year -and while it was nice, there were a few things I found strange. They enclosed the back end from the Garden Cafe - now H2O. It got a bit stuffy even when sailing but at least it was a quiet spot. The change in the Atrium to include Starbucks seems strange for a place that you go to listen to music before dinner (and other times) - now that it is a Starbucks -if you want a drink while listening to the music you either had to get your own from another bar or wait a while for the "barista" to go bring you one. That being said, I loved the ports, we spent 2 days in Venice before the cruise, and went off ship every port. Did 3 ship excursions and explored on our own for the others. Santorini was crowded as we were told to expect, but lovely just the same. Great views and some wonderful food. Speaking of food (and drink) The restaurant servers & bar people work very hard and we had no complaints about that. Food was good, good selection in all venues. The shows were OK - to be honest we have seen Band on the Run on 2 other ships - so didn't go to that. But there is enough other entertainment around the ship in the bars for fun. So- all in all - a good week - I always say , if you can't have a good time on a cruise -there is something wrong with you. Read Less

We have always talked about going on a cruise. My wife had been on quite a number of cruises and she was excited about going on a Mediterain cruise for the first time. Bookings of flights was not correct until brought to the attention of NCL. At one time our travel agent was told that NCL is a Cruise company and not n airline, which I told my agent that they should not offer air travel with the cruise then. The sailing time was changed and not communicated to anyone of our travel party although other members did get an email or this change. A destination was removed because of the delayed departure which was also not communicated to our group until we boarded although it was known three days in advance. The food seemed to be discounted in flavor and in texture. There are certain things I have seen working in food service before that some restaurants do to cut food costs, and it appeared to me that NCL practiced all of them (Watered down juices and beverages, Kraft singles? Really, Bland flavor). It was like food on a retirement home cruise. One Word NCL: SALT. Ok, two words: SALT and SALT. The staff, the crew, every person on the cruis was friedly and helpful, but that did not make up for the poor quality of logistics and food. What a shame, because everyone I know that has been on a cruise talks about the food more than anything and this was a complete disappointment. Entertainment was ok but not fantastic. The actors and singers worked hard just the shows were not the qualty I expected either. Read Less

The food was super salty, same thing every day salad bar, hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch, greasy sausages and bacon. Oily omelette. Wait staff was disengaged and not friendly. Got torn towels and sheets and when they were reported, replaced by torn towels again. Nickel and dime for everything. Main dining room had same menu except for 2 appetizers or main course. Adult pool was a hot tub, far from being a pool. To many issues...the ship is tired and unkempt, many places with paint chipped off, every time we came back onboard after a port at least one elevator was out of service. Plastic plates in at the Garden cafe are gross and there is always a smell Nof eggs on them. Had the beverage package and couldn't get bottled water as it was a premium item but a can of red bull was available. Senseless. Bar staff by the pool only see the young girls that waive a $1bill and not anyone else. The ship looks run down and tired. The fact that they pick up passengers along the way provided little sense of security as you end up carrying your own baggage because it can easily go missing. Read Less

All excursions were first class but if you want to really explore then I suggest the full day options. We visited Pompeii,Pisa and Cannes and all were amazing.Embarkation was stress free and easy as was the disembarkation which all went like clockwork. There is an option to self assist with luggage but we chose the colour coded system which allows you to put all your cases outside your room the night before you get off the ship and it was all so easy.We were in stateroom 14141 on the 14th floor and it was also excellent. Great housekeeper in Wilfred and room was kept spotless.Met some really nice passengers from all round the world and everyone was so approachable including all ship management. We paid upfront for the premium drink package and gratuities and it really is worth looking at that option. Definitely would consider NCL and the Epic again. Loved every minute of it. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to the commercialization I had seen. It is nothing but a nightmare with small pools that had so many people you couldn’t move in it. In size they must have been maybe 20 x 20 (if that). The buffet was terrible the bacon and the meats were full of fat not drained and climbed down on a large metal tray for you to pick out with prongs. The meatballs they served was soy bean, like rubber balls. Most of the food is eaten barely half and look around all the people are throwing half the food away in the garbage. The Stewart was fair although nothing really significant in his service. The price of this cruise was outrageous, almost $1300 apiece just for a balcony room. I imagine the Cove Haven part of the ship upstairs was much better than the average reservations. ( at least I hope so. ) You had to pay for every little thing, even a bottle of water. You had no choice but to pay the outrageous price for the water and my girlfriend had one drink, a margarita, it cost $15. In sum, for the price I paid I would not recommend this to anyone, maybe half the price I paid I would consider it. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it had been a few years since we sailed Norwegian. We previously sailed the Jade, and enjoyed it. Also, the NY pier is a 3 hr drive from our home. Bermuda is beautiful and I can leave a review regarding that on a Bermuda board, but for this review I am limiting my review to our time on the ship. The good: -Embarkation went smooth, less than 1.5 hour wait. -Sitting outside at the waterfront and dining during sunset. -Amazing view from an aft balcony -The drinks/drink package -Shows, particularly comedy, Marva Hicks, and wine lovers musical. The good and bad: The spa I bought over $800 worth of services and enjoyed it all. One down point here: I did purchase a nail fix as my most inexpensive service, $15 plus tax, to glue a piece of my nail down that was beginning to break. A couple of hours afterwards, it fell off anyway and the spa assistant manager refused to give me a refund. Because of this, I will probably not use the spa again even though the rest of the services were spectacular. I was even able to purchase the Keratase products I use on my hair here. My “vacation hero” was Amir from India who works in the hair salon. He was very personable and gave me a wonderful haircut. The bad: -Food. The food is generally not good on this ship. I am referencing the taste and beyond. The beyond refers to the night my husband and I repeatedly went to the bathroom with upset stomachs. My husband also orally could not keep any food down the same evening. The remainder of the cruise was full of upset stomachs, bathroom trips, bloating and gas. We both experienced this. I am probably used to a high quality of food but whatever the reason may be, we either didn’t like the food or became sick 60-70 percent of the time. On the ferry into Hamilton, Bermuda, other passengers also expressed their dissatisfaction with the food. Your best bets our the main dining rooms at lunch rather than the buffet and specialty restaurants at dinner, particularly Cagney’s and Teppanyaki. We ate everywhere except Le Bistro and Pinchos Tapas Bar. Staff onboard: Some staff members were exceptional, including our cabin steward Rochelle, guest service employees, Amir and Christina in the spa, bartenders and various waitstaff and we tipped amply on top of the automatic gratuities to show our appreciation. I suggest everyone do the same if they are willing and able. The problem with this ship is that service is hit or miss. We had very dismissive and slow service in La Cucina, for example. Also, when we called restaurant reservations to cancel reservations and free them up for others (after already making replacement reservations on our app), the female rep who answered was short tempered and impatient on multiple occasions. We were shocked that was the case when we were being courteous to other guests. Layout of the ship: The guest services, Internet cafe, main big screen interior television, bar, espresso shop and shore excursions are all in the same location with the art gallery not far away. Too many people are converged into this area of the boat at all times. There are also people walking slow and looking at art making it more congested. I have been on smaller ships that did not feel as cramped, including the Jade. I’ve also been on large ships that did not have this problem, such as MSC. In fact, Norwegian could take lessons from MSC as to how to lay out a large ship. -Disembarkation: Was a crap show. Our ship arrived into port late due to Hurricane Dorian and started disembarkation at 2:45. They gave out different colored luggage tags which were supposed to correspond with your disembark time. No one from Norwegian actually checked the tags until midway into the line or more and everyone appeared to converge on the gangway at the same time. Lots of people were visually frustrated and some verbalized it. -Water: Norwegian bring bottled water back to premium beverage package. It’s ridiculous that on a ship with wine and liquor everywhere, water appears to be its most expensive asset. Miscellaneous: Parking: We used a parking app, Park Whiz, to book a spot on 58th in walking distance to the pier. Very convenient to the pier. Shore excursion: Did not do an organized excursion, instead rented a Twizy during whole time docked. We visited Warwick Long Bay and John Smith Bay beaches and highly recommend both. The Twizy is uncomfortable for the rear passenger but a necessary evil to get around on your own unless you take a cab or bus or stay close to the ferry terminal. Visual appeal of Escape: 10/10 exterior. Inside, however, could use some color and rooms in need of refurbishment. I added this to miscellaneous as it is purely subjective and thus, I have tried not to base my review on. Read Less

I chose this ship because our friends had planned this trip and the convenience of the port. We had a wonderful time going to Bermuda. This was our first time on an Norwegian cruise line. The ship was very big with lots of activities to do. The captain was very careful to avoid the hurricane Dorian when we were going to Bermuda. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food of course wasn’t the best but still tasted good. I would have to thank the guest manager for treating us very special. I would have to say we want to try the Norwegian Escape again. This was also our first time doing a meet and great and the slot pull which was lots of fun. The captain was also careful with the hurricane going back home. Although we had arrived late we came back to port safe and sound. Read Less

The beaches are absolutely delightful, nothing compares in the US. we had such a great time on the ship. The staff is phenomenal. Very courteous, they went above and beyond. I highly recommend the beverage/drinks packet added to your ticket. It makes everything easier and boy were those drinks yummy. There were several bars on the ship and there were at least 10 total if not more. The restaurants were yummy, again the servers were awesome. The buffet was really good. I loved the variety and freshness. This is a trip I will never forget thanks to my good friend in NJ. If it wasn't for her, I would have never experienced the serenity of watching one the great oceans of the world. I would love to go on another Norwegian cruise, I would not hesitate for a minute to book it. Read Less

We always choose ncl as our favorite cruise line. Booked this same ship for another cruise. The ship is wonderful, clean, welcoming. Ate lobster at Bayamo twice and Cagneys once. Moderno with the salad bar never disappoints. Crew was pleasant and nice! Great cruise in all BUT.... It took till Wednesday to get all our platinum latitudes perks. Had to stand in line three separate time to accomplish this. Parents with young children and the drinking package. A good idea?? What happened to those days when there were minimal children on a cruise. they should have been in school. So many uncontrolled toddlers running and screaming in public areas. And older children sitting on stairs. Parents should be asked to control these children as to not disturb others. The buffet area would be wonderful if an adults only area is set up. Disembarkment was an epic fail. The color system they use only works when it is enforced. The higher ups need to revamp their system to guests to not get hurt or pushed on the stairs. It was awful! This was my honeymoon cruise. I booked through NCL and was told I would be given a $50 shore excursion credit. When I got on the ship, I was told I didn't qualify. This put a damper on my honeymoon. It isn't the money, it is the principle of the matter. I was told to expect this perk but then denied it. I even asked if they would pull the tapes to check what I was promised. Guest services said they would be in touch on the ship, I never heard anything there and when I submitted a customer care ticket to NCL, I still haven't gotten a response. It just feels like I was misled. I always thought that Norwegian was supposed to be a higher-class company, but Carnival would have resolved it on the spot. I paid more because I wanted a beautiful honeymoon, but I didn't get what I envisioned. As far as the cruise itself, I read another person's review and I wanted to know what ship they were on...then I read they had Bulgari products and chocolate-dipped strawberries. I realized it had to be the Haven. So, unless you are willing to shell out a large sum of money, you will be treated differently. Here are my observations: Cons: 1. The cabin noise is awful. When we first got in our cabin, I thought we were under the swimming pool, then I figured out it was the toilets flushing that was making the noise. 2. The dining rooms are packed, even with reservations, we had to wait. They try to tempt you to get all your meals in the Garden area, but it is packed too and the food is subpar. Meat always overcooked and vegetables mushy. 3. Activities, when they are being held are always packed. Plan early or you won't get into anything. Luckily, I booked the shows before we got on board or we'd have missed out. We never were able to try out the racetrack. 4. As mentioned earlier, if you are in the Haven, you have additional perks. But I really expected them to do something for our honeymoon. We were given a card to take to the dining room, but we received nothing special. I was a little shocked. 5. The people on the ship really act like they don't want to be there. They look stressed as if they did something wrong, they were going to be fired. Made me feel like I was supporting a slave environment. 6. Photos - there just weren't a lot of opportunities for photos. 7. If you want premium food, you have to pay for it. At least Carnival puts lobster tail on the regular menu once during the cruise! 8. The ship's size is awful. The problem is just there are too many people on board and not enough resources put in place to deal with them. The Atrium was always packed. They pulled out aluminum chairs for people to sit on. Docking was awful. Packed elevators and long lines. When we got to BC there was a line that wrapped around the ship. We were late getting there and people who had excursions booked were anxious to get off. I still can't believe they put us in port at 8:00 at night for a three-hour docking. Just ridiculous. So, was it all bad, no, there were some good parts. So let's look at the Pros: 1. The ship itself is beautiful and elegantly done. The Observation Lounge is a treasure and should be enjoyed. 2. The views from the Garden Eatery tables are better than the ones in the dining room. 3. The shows were very good. Jersey Boys was great and so was Six. 4. You don't have the constant pressure to drink on the ship. No one will approach you trying to push the alcohol. 5. The ports were beautiful, (except for BC, we didn't do anything there because of the hour we got there.) Excursions were great. I highly suggest the gardens at Juneau and the train ride through the mountains at Skagway. It's long but has some beautiful sights. Make time to visit Seattle too. Pike's Place is awesome. Lots of great seafood and flowers aplenty! Read Less

Overall food quality was poor. Stateroom was smaller than we are accustomed to. Ship was challenging to navigate. Large ship made buffet crowded and hard to find a table. Specialty restaurants are the focus, main dining room was poor. Itinerary was nice and the captain did an excellent job in glacier bay. The ship is new so was in great condition. Some of the lounges were great especially the observation lounge on deck 15. The entertainment was average except for Jersey Boys which was excellent. Be prepared to walk as elevators are at each end of the ship. The adult only pool was a nice touch but small. If you are into casual dress this is the ship for you. Jeans are welcome everywhere. Cabin stateroom attendant was excellent. The specialty restaurant Le Bistro was excellent but you pay for the experience. Overall I think other cruise lines offer a better experience for the price. We traveled with friends who had chosen this cruise before we decided to go. Embarkation was the easiest and fastest of any cruise we have been on. This was our 6th, 2nd on Norwegian, 1st to time to Alaska. The only entertainment we saw was Jersey Boys. It was a good show. Most of the entertainment was in small venues. Even the main theater was small in comparison to other ships we've been on. Specialty Dining was not included in our Sail-A-Way cabin, but we paid extra for it to spend dinner with friends whose cabin did. It is not worth spending any extra, especially Ocean Blue which cost an additional $14 per person. Shore excursions were expensive and not always what it was advertised to be. Time in port was too short. In Ketchikan we only had time for our excursion. Time in port at Victoria is a joke. We didn't bother to get off the ship. We docked at 8pm and had to be back before midnight. Service was generally good other than waiting in lines. Overall, we did had a good time. Read Less

this was our first time cruising on a large ship. Because of the number of people on the ship, the cruise was not as pleasant as it could have been. spent a lot of time waiting for elevators and in lines at restaurants. Although there were a variety of restaurants most restaurants had the same menu and it was a matter of sitting in different restaurants to eat the same food. Many of the waitstaff seemed disorganized and less than friendly. Staff overall were impersonal and inaccessible Since the cruise was to Alaska, many of the outdoor special activities such as the racetrack and swimming pool we’re not usable. disembark meant at the end of the cruise was efficient. But one of our experiences disembarking for an excursion was a nightmare due to the crowds. We are glad we went for the experience of Alaska, but will cruise a smaller ship from now on. Read Less

I decided to take vacations the last moment (needed a break from a stressful work assignment) so once I decided on the destination, an Alaska cruise, I got what was still available so it wasn't really a thorough choice. Some other lines were selling out fast, the Norwegian Bliss still had a mini-suite (better accommodations were sold out) so I took it. This was my first cruise so I didn't know what to expect, but I was overall pleasantly surprised, with many ups, but also, there were a few downs. The good: the Norwegian Bliss is a very new ship, and it is tastefully decorated, with everything in top shape and working order. The service is unbelievable, with extremely friendly and helpful staff everywhere. We didn't have a single negative experience with the staff. We were impressed with how they were always willing to help, with a smile, and were very efficient, knowledgeable, and professional. The Norwegian Cruise Line must have an excellent training center for the staff! We felt pampered! Some of the food was surprisingly good. The La Cucina restaurant served one of the best Italian meals I've ever had, and I'm half-Italian (I'm a dual citizen of Italy and the United States), I know Italian cuisine very well. Food Republic was delicious with original items, very well-presented. Los Lobos was very tasty too, with Mexican food that benefits from a modern touch. The one meal we had at the complimentary Manhattan was excellent and almost as good as what we had in the paid specialty venues above. Breakfast at The Local was tasty and peaceful. The swimming pool area and the hot tubs were clean and pleasant, and never too crowded. The Observation Lounge is a very cool and relaxing space, and they have tasty snacks and a nice piano bar. I really enjoyed the cast of the musical Six (the other musical, Jersey Boys, I didn't attend because I had seen it already), and the Beatles cover band at The Cavern. A duo of Phillipino male pianist and female singer were excellent. The silent disco with earphones at the Social was cool. The bar that specializes in Mojitos was good too. The wine bar The Cellar was excellent, with very good tasting events, including lectures by a very knowledgeable sommelier. I've been studying and tasting wine for decades and still, he surprised me with some information that I didn't know. The stand-up comedians were very, very funny! My wife very much enjoyed the Spa. She had several treatments there, and found the staff to be competent, and with prices similar to what she pays elsewhere. I didn't frequent it. She also liked the Gym with Yoga and Aerobic classes. Gift shops were good; my wife gave me a beautiful Scuderia Ferrari watch and I gave her a nice necklace. These were both well-priced. Other guests were friendly, polite, and we had some nice conversations. Embarkation was easy and fast. Disembarkation, however, was rather slow, with long lines and long waiting times. The bad: The Norwegian Bliss, together with the similar Norwegian Joy, are two of the biggest ships in the business, and the elevators, 16 in total, were overwhelmed. Often, the elevators were full when they reached our deck, and we had to wait and wait for an opportunity to get in. This ship should have the double of the number of elevators they offer. It's a pity that obviously, this can't be changed. The architects should have planned it better: for a ship this size, add more elevators! Some of the food was rather mediocre. The two restaurants with the best reputation, Ocean Blue and Le Bistro, were paradoxically very weak. For example, I had a steak with five peppers at Le Bistro, and I had to abundantly add more pepper to get any flavor at all, and the meat was overcooked although I asked for medium rare. Again, I lived in Paris, France, for 5 years and I know French cuisine very well. Everything we had at Le Bistro was bland and a pale imitation of good French cooking. Ocean Blue was also rather unremarkable. We had better seafood in the other venues, as compared to this one that specializes in seafood. Weird. Two of the three main complimentary restaurants, Taste and Savor, were also very mediocre. The Garden Cafe serves a buffet, and the food there was rather unappealing as well, not to forget, it was very crowded and chaotic. A particular breakfast at Savor was almost disgusting, with a croissant with scrambled eggs that looked like it was microwaved, so mushy the croissant was, and Eggs Benedict that were pretty dry and chewy. Some of the live music was atrocious. First of all, the selection is geared towards Country and Pop, two genres I don't care for. There was absolutely no venue that played jazz. For a cruise line that is registered in the United States (as well as the Bahamas) and sails to and from mostly American cities (with the exception of Victoria, BC) with most guests being American, it is weird that they don't present at all the most quintessential American genre, jazz. I also enjoy classical music and there was none to be found. The blonde female pianist was terrible, often botching the musical lines. The rock band Blue 4, oh my God, they must be the worst I've ever heard! Slow, low energy, poor playing, and mediocre voices. I can't believe the cruise line can't find better musicians. As a matter of fact, in the talent show featuring members of the crew, there were two waiters who sang much better than most singers who were hired for the live music! It would be nice to have an indoor swimming pool for the cold weather. Apparently they do have one in The Haven, the upscale section of the ship, but it's only for the guests of that section, which was sold out when I booked my cruise. The shore excursions in general were expensive and not a good value. Some were enjoyable but others were rushed and confusing, including, it was hard to find the correct buses outside. Maybe it's the luck of the draw since there are so many options, but unfortunately some of the ones we picked weren't that great. We bought them from the cruise line website and later realized that the same excursions are offered elsewhere for much cheaper prices. Oh well, I guess next cruise I'll be smarter. A couple of them were good, though. The art auctions weren't good. We found most of the art being sold, to be very tacky. Funny enough, the one piece we liked inside the art venue, wasn't for sale; it was part of the permanent ship decor. So, overall, I'm pleased with the Norwegian Bliss, but I do think they need to hire better musicians, be a bit more even in terms of food quality, and it would be lovely to have more elevators and an indoor swimming pool, although these structural issues are set in stone and can't be changed. Wanted to visit Alaska. This was my first time on a cruise ship and I absolutely loved it. Lots of things to do on board, terrific food and great staff from beginning to end. Since this was an end of season cruise, there were not as many people on board but there were still several thousand of us. Everything was managed very well with one exception. We did three excursions through Norwegian. The first two were terrific. In Skagway, we went on a Gold Panning, Sled Dog and Railway Summit tour. It was great but a very long day at around 7 hours. In Ketchikan, we did an Eagles, Lighthouse and Totem tour - I would absolutely love to do this tour again. The boat crew were great and the scenery was amazing. We got an unexpected bonus by sighting 3 whales who gave us a great show. The third tour was in Victoria to the Butchart Gardens. Unfortunately it was at night and the lighting at the gardens was about the same as the solar lights we put out along our sidewalk. Very frustrating since you could tell that in the daylight, these gardens would have been fantastic. Don't waste your money on this one. Norwegian should not be offering it as it was really just a long bus ride in the dark to visit a very dark garden. Too bad this marred an otherwise wonderful experience. Read Less
