Carnival Triumph Cruise Review by sailoral1561
- Sail Date: August 2011
- Destination: Western Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Aft-View Extended Balcony
the cabin was acceptable. nothing fancy, showed signs of wear and tear but overall, an oasis from the party chaos outside.
boarding took 2 hours; disembarking 30 minutes, if you choose to self assist and carry all your luggage yourself. once onboard the crowds were mostly easy to negotiate.
crew is simply weird, steward and reserved dinning staff expect you to be there every night in effect attempting to control one's choices, and seem to keep tabs on you like hawks. i have a serious issue with this practice and contained my displeasure only for my traveling companion's sake. this is how i'm venting my frustration.
the shore excursions peddled onboard are expensive when compared to the same tours offered once you are in port by local outfits. renting a vehicle seems the more economic option in time and money. do your research and learn the language or hang out with a native speaker to secure the better deals in port. you only have about 6 good hours in any port of call so it's best to do your research way ahead of time.
the constant peddling of onboard shopping opportunities and shore excursions was a turn off. i felt as if trapped inside an infomercial. Carnival docks on their ready made facilities, which are nothing more than shopping gauntlets which must be negotiated before actually entering the port of call. gets old right quick.
i do not recommend Carnival and will not cruise with them again. EVER.
