Ventura Cruise Review by Shirley Harris
- Sail Date: January 2011
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Inside Twin with Shower
The cabin was fine, as was the cabin steward who went the extra mile to be friendly and provide a good service.
The buffet on the other hand was not good at all. There was not a good choice of food and even though you were handed a really hot plate, the food in general was tepid at best and in some cases cold. If salad was the preferred choice then this had to be put onto the very hot plates. There were 'cold plates' for salad but these were also hot when available which spoiled the whole idea of a salad. The tables were not emptied readily and the tea and coffee stations left a lot to be desired. Getting tea, coffee, milk, cups, tea spoons and hot water in the same place seemed too much to ask and staff were rude when asked for cups etc. The day we left there were no cups at any drink station and people were forced to drink tea and coffee from plastic glasses.
The staff did try to keep sunbeds free on sea days and removed towels from beds that had been 'saved' and where no-one appeared for a length of time but in general you had to be up really early to get a sunbed by a pool. The chairs and tables around the pool had wooden slats and were really hard and uncomfortable. Smoking was allowed on the starboard side of decks 15 and 16 as well as the starboard side of promenade deck 7 but it was impossible to sit and have a drink and a smoke as the seating facilities were too hard to sit and relax on and generally full of grease and unclean from Frankies burger bar. The staff on these decks were not very friendly and some were rude.
This was our first experience of P&O and we had been led to believe it was the best but the next cruise will definitely be back at Royal Caribbean who do their utmost to take care of their passengers.

BonaireBonaire was a beautiful port of call, we felt there was no need to take an excursion as there was a nice beach, a good promenade with beach side bars and a good shopping centre one street back from the beach.View All 593 Bonaire Cruise Port Reviews

DominicaWish we'd taken a tour as the port, by P&O's admission was very shabby and no beaches at this stop. The rain forest is the main attraction but most of the excursions involved too much walking for those less able and the one that didn't involve too much walking was very expensive.View All 699 Dominica Cruise Port Reviews
We did then get a complete day at Barbados where we took an excellent tour called Scenic and beach. The bus driver was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about Barbados as he showed us the sights, the sugar cane fields etc. and then we were dropped for a couple of hours at Dover beach which was typical white sand and turquoise sea, excellent.

Grand TurkAn excellent place, no need for excursions here, lots to do near the port and as well as a good beach there is a huge outdoor swimming complex at Margaritaville where you can relax on sunbeds or swim and soak up the sun.View All 2,098 Grand Turk Cruise Port Reviews

Ocho RiosThankfully we had booked a trip at this port as the port itself had nothing to offer and didn't seem very safe to wander about. We took the Bob Marley tour which was certainly an experience and as well as looking around the Bob Marley Foundation we got to see some lovely countryside and a real view of how Jamaicans live. The tour was completed with a lunch of jerk chicken and pork before returning to port. Excellent.View All 1,046 Ocho Rios Cruise Port Reviews

St. LuciaDisappointed that the excursion we booked on here was cancelled so spent the day around the port. Reasonable port but not particularly near anything else, a few holiday shops and a lively outdoor bar but not a lot else.View All 1,387 St. Lucia Cruise Port Reviews
