We did the Fort Lauderdale to LA via the Panama Canal in November 2010. I had very much relied on this forum reading the useful reviews so I hope you find this useful. This was our second cruise, we came along way to do (from New Zealand) but we did not get our hopes up, I was realistic about the general wear and tear on the boat and last year our cruse on Princess Sapphire was very good. I wont go through the issues one by one, believe me, my partner was more disappointed than I was. Embarkation - long wait, about 90 minutes, onto the ship welcome drink but then not given any direction on how to get to the cabin. The cabin - brilliant for those who need separate sleeping spaces, cabin attendant pulled the bed out every night and surprisingly was reasonably comfortable. But then the trouble starts!!! Our room on the 9th floor (9199) was below the outdoor the bar. This bar has wooden furniture and wooden floors, let the fun begin - every morning between 5-6 the staff had to move the furniture - or should I say drag it - to this day I still am not sure. We complained, our neighbours complained, our neighbours got out of bed one morning to go and ask them to stop and we did the same. I advised the surprised staff at guest services, I didn't pay good money to come on holiday to be woken up at this time of the morning. It never stopped, oh except for the morning we got off the ship! I never knew cabin selection was this important, I cant believe the Celebrity have not addressed this problem before! We were given a free night at the SS restaurant and offered to be moved but not to the same type of cabin I had paid more for. So be aware when booking your cabin, go down one more floor if your wanting to be at that end of the boat. Its really hard for this not to ruin the whole trip and we did try hard to 'get over it' but it does make for a very long day being woken so early and its a bit like they just were not listening to us, very indifferent and perhaps a free night at the restaurant would 'shut us up'. Food:- Well really there was no stand out restaurant or meal(with the one exception, Brunch, which was held twice during the 14 days) It was just ordinary. I was hoping it was as good as what people said it had been but it wasn't. On Princess, we loved the self serve buffet where you could control portions etc, on Celebrity they serve you and we just didn't enjoy passing plates between the glass partitions to someone who could not hear what you were asking for. Wine events- they were good and we attended most of them - very professionally run and felt you got good value for money. Surcharge - we had paid our gratuities before hand and were surprised to see another 15% charge on things like the bar bill. Strange we thought that's was the gratuities was for. Craig the Shopping Guide - worth while finding him while your in port and getting his view on things. Whilst he is fairly impartial he did give us some confidence that we were making the right purchase and waited for my ring to be re-sized and then delivered it back to the ship for me. His shopping shows are a bit of the same format but useful if you want that sort of information. Room Service - ordered cheese board and they delivered (after a follow up phonecall) cup of tea! But again little things like that are just annoying! Ports and Timings:- the ports we had the less time in we enjoyed the most, I know they have scheduled to keep to but it seemed sad to be leaving some of the ports Cabo San Lucas (early afternoon) when there was so much to see and do. Other points in general - the ship, public areas, dining areas all seemed very crowded. Finally disembarkation - I appreciate its a US customs issue, we were asked to be in the Theatre at 10.15 - we arrived at that time - led off the boat about an hour later - then onto the bus about 2pm, yes that's a very long time and a waste of a day! Guess being non US citizens it takes longer but all up 4 hours??? So in summary, No would not cruise again with Celebrity. Holidays are just to precious! Sleep as well! Hope you find it somewhat helpful

Sadly Infinity we wont be back
