  3. Norwegian Joy
I was a bit apprehensive of taking a ship so large. But the Joy is large enough that we did not find crowds of people except around the stairs/ elevators during leaving and boarding the ship. It is well laid out with a variety activities and restaurant options. It is clean, nicely decorated, and staff is friendly. I was very happy that there is a Starbucks with espresso coffee drinks. I also appreciated the dance classes but they quickly outgrew the space provided which was disappointing. This is not a ship that you can easily climb a few flights of stairs to get to a floor you are interested in as there are just too many flights of stairs to manage. We took this ship on an Alaskan trip. Although I was happy with the ship, I still would not recommend this ship for this itinerary. (I would however consider the Joy in the Caribbean or similar route). The port times were very short and with so many people to move, your time on shore is limited. If you are taking an Alaskan cruise as a “once in a lifetime experience”, do yourself a favor and do the longer one way route with more time to experience Alaska, which is probably the reason you are looking at an Alaskan trip. The only real complaint that I have is it feels like there are so many "up charges". We did get our cabin at a reduced (last Minute) rate then but managed to spend over a thousand dollars on extras even though we were very careful. Even the free deals come with a cost. (Tips are added to drink and speciality dinning packages and when the “bill comes” they want to know if you would like to pay an additional tip! The race track looks fun but we did not feel a need to pay the extra charge to ride. Entertainment: Footloose was by far the best show I have ever seen on a cruise ship. Great show and very talented cast. Elements was also good but not quite to the level of Footloose. Unfortunately the theater seating is very limited, so make sure to register for a show seat before boarding the ship. Meals. The included restaurants were fine. (I avoid the buffet whenever possible). It was easy to get a seat whenever we wanted one. The service was adequate although a few times they were quite slow. The extra dining was excellent. We especially enjoyed the Teppanyaki and the Bistro was one of the best meals I have had in a very long while with very excellent service.

Mega Ship with lots of room.

Cabin Review

Inside
Cabin IC 13700
We had an interior room, certainly upgraded, as it was in the very front of the boat with a window facing front. The room itself was huge and we were extremely happy with it! It was well appointed and suitable for a larger group of friends or family. The location at ihefront of the ship did make it quite far to walk to with the added bonus (for us) of giving us plenty of “steps” even on sea days. If you have any mobility issues though, I highly recommend you book a specific cabin that is very near the elevators.

  • Photo Safari
Excellent small group tour with ability to get good photos of whales. Good pointers for taking whale tail pictures. Short walking tour to view glacier was an aded bonus.

  • Lumberjack Show
Fun, entertaining short show. A little overpriced but worthwhile for a unique experience. We had plenty of time afterward to get around the city. Even time to take the free town shuttle to Totem Museum.

  • White Pass Scenic Railway
Interesting tour to feel part of history. We had a sort time to visit in town, before returning to the ship. (Easy Walk) There was good opportunity to step out on platform to take pictures.
