Norwegian Getaway Cruise Review by jbpcalifornia
- Sail Date: July 2019
- Destination: Baltic Sea
- Cabin Type: Large Balcony Stateroom
Cabin: Balcony 9728. Adequate. Only drawback was constant awakening due to slamming doors all night. Strange. Neighbors weren't coming and going all night so I have no idea where the sounds were coming from.
Staff: Friendly and helpful throughout.
Ship: Clean and new
Embarkation and debarkation: Excellent
Dining: Complementary restaurants were ok; not quite up to Princess quality. Buffet was excellent. Lots of selection and generally tasty. Specialty restaurants Cagneys and Mondernero were excellent. Here's the big problem: LeBistro (French cuisine?) was atrocious. Slow service. Awful food. Appetizer of "lump crab salad" was mostly mayonnaise and devoid of crab. Main course of sole (most expensive thing on menu) was atrocious: came with 2 finger size potatoes and 3 croutons on fish. Seriously. That was it. Fish was pan fried but without taste. Would've been bad in the complementary restaurant, but to pay for it was unacceptable.
Two big problems: ship docked in Rostock instead of Warnemunde; and, Nyahsamn instead of Stockholm. We knew these changes after we booked, but it proved to be problematic. Rostock is a somewhat boring city. Most other cruise ships dock at closeby Warnemunde. NCL probably docks at Rostock to save port fees. Could've have gotten to Warnemunde if we wanted to. Ship docks at Nyhasamn, about 43 miles from Stockholm. Again, we knew this going in, but the change happened after booking. Seems very deceptive in hindsight. We used the shuttle bus from NCL. They promised "narration" - there was none. The significant problems were with the return to the ship. Everyone was given different information about when and where to catch the bus. Total chaos in Stockholm. NCL staffer finally showed up about 1.5 hours after we all started waiting. Very poorly done and we've filed a complaint with NCL.
