Britannia Cruise Review by SwallowsandMartins
- Sail Date: July 2019
- Destination: Norwegian Fjords
We went with our two daughters, husband of one daughter and four children.
Britannia is a really great ship and the cruise exceeded all expectations.
Our cabins were spotlessly clean, very well fitted and serviced by a a very nice steward.
We liked to sleep with the balcony doors locked open and listen to the sea at night. Watching the sunset from our balcony at 10.30 at night was a joy.
We were very lucky with the weather and on both at sea days the sun shone and we spent our day on deck enjoying the warmth and views. I was surprised how easy it was to find a sun lounger available either in the sun or shade. Around the pool it could become busy but go up to the deck overlooking the pool and there was usually plenty of space.
We all used one or other of the pools (there is an adult only pool and sunbathing area).
The children ( 9, two 12 year olds and a15 year old) preferred to play in the pools or do their own thing rather than go to the kids clubs. They were never ever bored!
Norway is stunning. We had some lovely excursions not all booked through P&O and easy to source online.
The longest zip wire in Scandinavia, the rib ride, hiking up a mountain to visit a goat farm, Flåm railway and walking up to Brikstal glacier were highlights.
All the food we had either in thie buffet or the restaurants was excellent.
We had an exceptional meal in the Epicurean restaurant that I feel was well worth the supplement.
Yes there were little niggles but nothing I feel I have to highlight.
You will mix with people from all walks of life on a cruise, young and old, but our experience was very positive. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would do it all again

Booked online and quite expensive but well worth the money.
Children loved the rib ride.
Dropped off in a very quiet spot along with our guide and we walked up the mountain for about 2 miles.
The goats were lovely and very friendly. We were shown the milking shed and cheese making room and watched a short demonstration. Then we had a delicious lunch of salads, goats cheeses, goat salami and home made bread. Plus glasses locally pressed apple juice. Excellent!
Then a Trek down the mountain and driven back to Flam.
A super day for all of us.

OldenSeeing a glacier is a must and the trip to the Brikstal glacier was really good.View All 157 Olden Cruise Port Reviews
We all walked up to the glacier, about 4 km I think. You can ride up on a troll bus but walking is much more fun.
The scenery is stunning and the waterfalls in places shower you with spray.

Booked online and I believe the same company and route as P&O excursion but cheaper especially for children.
