  3. Ruby Princess
We [myself, wife and our two children] took the Ruby Princess Cruise to Alaska [with Glacier Bay] from Jun 29th thru Jul 6th. I had read reviews of Ruby Princess with 5 and 4 stars as well 1 star, 3 stars. I was worried when I had read 1-star reviews. Our experience was amazing. Here are the details: Embarkation: I had read reviews on Trip Advisor suggesting that elite, club members and those who have booked Suites and Mini Suites are given preference. Everyone else will have to wait in line for about 2 hours since the Cruise starts at 4pm. We were first timers [no special status] on Princess Cruise. Previously we had taken cruise to Bahamas on Royal Caribbean. We remember waiting for couple of hours in Miami port to get on the Cruise. It was horrible experience. That was in 2010 and now the things might have changed. We reached at 12.33pm to Seattle Pier 91. As soon as we reached, procedure started. We never stood in the line for more than 3 minutes. Line was moving forward quickly and after the passport verification etc., we were in the ship at our room at around 1pm. We proceeded to our rooms. Rooms: Our [Ocean Balcony] side by side rooms carpet was clean and beautiful. The beds, table, TV, bathroom/toilet and sink were perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed on-demand TV shows with no commercials and HD picture quality. Our side by side rooms ocean balcony had a partition so we used to walk to each other’s room from front door. When our room steward, Joel Bohol saw this on the first day, on his own he asked someone to remove the partition in the balcony. It was such a convenience for us that we enjoyed combined long balcony thoroughly. It is absolutely value to your money when you have ocean balcony. Service: Our room steward, Joel Bohol was energetic, proactive, cheerful young man. I think he serviced about 10 rooms [may be more] around ours’. He would greet everyone whenever he would see us. Since we had two rooms, he is the one who saw entering each other’s rooms from the front door. Joel saw this on the first day and on his own asked someone to remove the partition in the balcony. This was a great convenience for us. On the fifth day of our stay on the cruise, we had a water clog in one of the two rooms [in sink and shower, not in the toilet]. As soon as I informed this to Joel, he immediately fixed the problem and rest of the two days were perfect. Other room was perfect throughout the stay of 7 days. Service in the restaurants and buffet area was great. People constantly greeted everyone and asked at the table if we need drinks, coffee, tea, water. Food: Plenty of eating places. Horizon Buffet was almost open all the time with plenty of Breakfast, lunch snacks, dinner options. Hot plain scramble eggs and also with ham, boiled eggs, several options of bread, butter, lots of fruits. For lunch and dinner, you would find plenty of Veg and Non-veg option. Soup and fresh salads every day as well as we found Steaks, Chines, Italian and Indian food choices every day. We liked the pool side pizza and ice-cream place. Michael Angelo and Da Vinci Restaurants had mostly Non-veg items and only couple of Veg items, but the service was excellent. Soup, Sandwich and Coffee place in Piazza was great. We liked the soup and hot sandwich. I want to suggest everyone, just because your cruise price includes unlimited food, please do not waste it! I have seen mothers giving plate overflowing food to their tiny children who would hardly eat anything and it would be wasted. Everyone knows this but still some people would do it just because they have paid for it. Think of people in North Korea, Africa, South America who don't get food to eat for days. I know they will not get any food if you not waste it on cruise ship but I feel bad when people throw away food. General Appearance of the ship: The theme of this ship is Wood. You would find the polished wood [I think oak wood] used everywhere and it looks clean. Some people may not like the wood because they may find it more contemporary, but we loved it. Piazza on 5th, 6th and 7th deck was beautiful. Everyday there were some activities. My wife participated in one of the activities when guests gathered and danced on the songs played by the DJ. There were sale events of hand painted art, Jewellery, purses, shirts. Fitness Center: I like to use Treadmill every day. I visited the fitness center on the 16th deck at the front of the ship. It was outstanding! About 15, 20 treadmills, about 8 bikes, bench press, weights and several other equipment, also guided workouts. Visits to port: Ship itinerary included 10 hours in Juneau, 10 hours in Skagway, entire day at Glacier Bay and passage, 7 hours at Ketchikan and 5 hours at Victoria. We thoroughly enjoyed each place with tours. Disembarkation: Breakfast was open in the morning at 6am. Great options to go offboard such as take your luggage with you if you want to get out of the cruise first otherwise there were three timings to off-board and pickup your luggage from 8am to 11am. It was as easy and smooth as embarkation. Overall we had an amazing time on Ruby Princess and no place to complain about anything.
