We are four friends and chose this cruise because of the. There is no disputing that this is a nice ship however there is also no hiding the fact that it is 25 years old. The refurbish has been tastefully done however there are just a couple of niggles. We both had balcony cabins and it is quite obvious that the glass panels at one point had all the edges were protected with some kind of bezel and these have been removed and not replaced leaving a 50mm exposed edge with the remains of the adhesive showing, its not dangerous but it just looks tatty and shoddy. Both of our toilets also having problems with the engineer having to be called out on at least six occasions. The cabin refurbish looks ok but looks a little on the cheap side. So the question is why spoil the ship for a halfpenny of tar. My next niggle concerns the buffet lounge on the 9th deck and the plastic glasses. Now I understand the use of plastic glasses but the state of the wine glasses were a disgrace, they were scratched, cloudy, and generally looked if they should not go near anyone’s mouth, either find a plastic friendly detergent or change them on a frequent basis. I repeat they look disgusting. My third niggle, sack the sound engineer/mixer he just does not have a clue. The crew performers were virtually having to shout not sing into the microphones to get themselves heard and most nights it just finished up as a shouting match, either that or they are such bad singers that he had to drown them out, I prefer my first option sack him. Now that I am over that,we really enjoyed the cruise, the atmosphere on board is lovely the crew are a delight and we loved the open dinning. I suppose the question is would we cruise with Marella again, we have been with Cunard, Princess, and Celebrity in the past, and whilst it is not up to their standards re luxury etc,Marella cruises are excellent value for money and we would sail with them again if the itinerary was right.

Itinerary great but just a few issues
