  3. Jewel of the Seas
My daughter (35 y.o.), my granddaughter (13 y.o.) and I (66 y.o.) took a cruise to the Greek Islands; we started and ended the cruise in the port outside of Rome (July 16 -23, 2019). We shared a Junior Suite, #1584, on deck 10. Our stateroom was clean and nicely appointed, had been updated. The whole ship was clean and must have been updated recently. The cabin attendant split the bed into twin beds. The couch pulled out into a bed which became basically a mattress on the floor for my granddaughter. The attendant never took up the mattress (to make a couch again) the whole trip...but he probably would have if I had requested it. The only odd thing about the cabin was daily/nightly noises overhead which varied in intensity and sounded anywhere in the range of a herd of kittens running to a plane landing! The buffet (deck 11) was above us, but still the noises were annoying. There was plenty of storage in the cabin for three females for 7 days. Dining was great; no complaints. We usually ate in the deck 5 Dining room. EXCURSIONS: My daughter and granddaughter enjoyed the Perivolos Beach on Santorini. I chose to avoid more sun, but was very disappointed with the excursion to Pyrgos Village with Mezes and Wine Tour. The guide was distant, there was no "tour" of the winery, and the mezes were very meager...avoid this excursion! And "Ulysses" from Royal Caribbean who was in charge of shopping was definitely working for the more expensive jewelry shops at each port. We discovered more moderately priced items at shops at each port. And be aware that if one gets their time to "Explore Athens and Ancient Acropolis" to the afternoon that it is very HOT and there is no time to shop in Athens (Piraeus). All things considered, I would recommend Jewel of the Seas as a very good ship. The itinerary to the Greek Islands however is somewhat lacking in excitement.

Cabin Review

Cabin 1584
Nice balcony. The attendant brought a third chair so all three of us could sit and enjoy it. Balcony has a small round table, too.
There is a coffee maker and refrigerator, too. The safe was somewhat small. For example, and iPad could fit in the safe, but not a laptop.
Bathroom had a tub with shower and handheld sprayer, one sink. And there is a step-up into the bathroom (about 4-5 inches high).
Blackout curtain is also on floor to ceiling balcony windows.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Acropolis
I thought I had booked the early morning excursion, but somewhere along the line my booking was changed to the afternoon. It was very HOT. The hike up the Acropolis hill was not as bad as my 66 y.o. body anticipated, but there were very slick rocks and protruding rocks which made for somewhat hazardous walking even though it was dry. No shade on the top of the Acropolis.

  • Pyrgos Village
Disinterested guide guy. No real tour of winery and mezes was very skimpy. Only the view from behind the winery was worthwhile.
