Regal Princess Cruise Review by Edrip
- Sail Date: June 2019
- Destination: Baltic Sea
We thought the age of this ship showed. The staff did not seem as friendly and happy. It was rare to see ships officers involved with guests or staff whereas on the Royal Princess this was a common sight. The cabin staff did not clean the balcony of bird droppings that were reported the first day onboard. The biggest disappointment was the wifi. On the Royal Princess 30 mile off the coast of Chile wifi was tested at 35 MB/s which provided excellent FaceTime contact to family. Throughout the Baltic cruise the wifi was never above 4.2 MB. which is barely enough for email.
On the positive side the dining and entertainment were very good especially in the specialty restaurants. The Horizon buffet dining had very good food and many choices but seating was often hard to find, probably the colder weather brought all the poolside crowd inside.
All of the ports were beyond expectations and the shipboard warnings about difficulties with visa requirement in St Petersburg were unfounded. We had booked with TJ travel for St Petersburg, Helsinki, and Warnemunde and had no problems. Our shore excursions on Princess bookings for Tallini, Oslo and Stockholm were also very good but very crowded, 40 plus guest versus 15 with TJ.
The Baltic destinations were very worthwhile and I would do this cruise again but perhaps on a different ship.

Schwerin CastleThis tour consisted of an hours drive to Rostock and Schwerin Castle. Our TJ travel tour was combined with an Alla tour. On arrival at Rostock the two groups split. The TJ guide was not as good as we were expecting after previous experience. The group was often left standing around with no input from the guide. When there was a request for washrooms she directed us to a nearby McDonalds which was not welcoming. There was a tourism office across the square with toilet facilities.View All 17 Schwerin Castle Reviews
The Schwerin Castle was very worth seeing.
CopenhagenWe arrived 3 days before embarkation. The Copenhagen card at a cost of about $60 per day was very useful in doing our own exploring. These city cards are available for many European cities and allow travel on buses, train, metro and even a canal cruise. They also allow admittance to many attractions either free or or a discount of 20%. A beautiful city with many interesting attractions. Everyone speaks very good English.View All 1,092 Copenhagen Cruise Port Reviews

HelsinkiThis was an excellent tour by TJ Travel. A very modern tour van with 16 people and a wonderful guide who took the time to keep the group together and ensured everyone knew where to meet should we get separated. A authentic Finnish lunch was provided as part of the tour. The tour covered much of the city, old and new and included time at the Rock church.View All 12,792 Helsinki Cruise Port Reviews

Viking Ship MuseumThis tour included the Viking museum and the Thor Heyerdahl Kon Tiki museum. Both interesting and very well presented. The highlight of this trip was the fact that we were in a brand new bus which would not start when we were about to leave the museums for the port. Time for sailing was fast approaching. The guide calmly called for assistance and when a mechanic arrived he did some checks and pointed out to the driver that he needed to breath into the breath analyzer before the bus would start. Needless to say the driver was embarrassed.View All 46 Viking Ship Museum Reviews
Private TourA delightful exhausting two day tour. TJ covered all the highlights listed and then some. Our group of 14 travelled in a nearly new van with a skilled driver who seemed to always find parking near venues. I was very surprised the van had high speed wifi available for free. Our guide equipped us all with ear buds so we could always hear her. She was very experienced and seemed to know all the shortcuts to avoid lineups. We often saw other cruise ship guests lined up. Although there was much to see the guide made it easy for for the less agile to take breaks and catch up to the group. The earbuds were a great asset in these cases. A superb lunch was provided both days.View All 186 Private Tour Reviews
The company had provided the required visas and there was no problem getting off and on the ship. A simple passport check was all that was required.
Stockholm Old Town TourThis was circuitous tour of the city to the Skansen museum. Interesting but not overwhelming. We selected to leave the tour guide and look around on our own. We met at the bus at the designated time. Four people missed the bus after we waited for ten minutes and the bus had to get back to the ship for departure.View All 47 Stockholm Old Town Tour Reviews
