We chose the cruise for the itinerary and HAL's reputation for food and service. We love all the ports: Argostolian, Kefalonia Greece; Kotor, Montenegro; Dubrovnik, Split and Korcula, Croatia; Corfu, Greece; Catania, Sicily; Valletta, Malta; and Naples, Italy. The schedule was port intensive and we could have used a couple more sea days. The ship itself is nicely decorated, with beautiful flower arrangements. Food in the MDR was very good and though we had anytime dining, we loved the team at table 336 (Sumardi, Yusi and Carlos) and made regular reservations to ensure we got them. We ate in the Pinnacle Grille twice, once for the De Librije specialty dinner. That menu was fabulous and the food interesting and delicious. Service for the standard Pinnacle menu was significantly better than service for the De Librije dinner. Entertainment in the theater was limited but the music made up for it. We enjoyed the quality of the performers in both the Rolling Stone Rock Room and BB King Blues club. The Lincoln Center stage was very good, but times did not always fit our schedule. We booked only private company excursions all of which were fabulous.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom
Cabin VA 6159
Clean cabin with fabulous Steward. Plenty of storage for 2. A bit shorter depth than some verandahs we've had. Couch is small and 'coffee table' takes up a bit too much floor space.
We loved the balcony and the extra side table and foot rest provided. Bathroom had a great shower, and sufficient storage but commode oddly oriented.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Argostoli (Kefalonia)
We did a small group excursion with Kokolis Holidays that included St Gerasimos Monastery, Melissani lake/cave, Drogarati Cave; Ag. Efimia village, and photo stop at Myrtos beach (the standard fare for most of the excursions. It was good to see Kefalonian places beyond Argostoli, but there really isn't too much on this island. The guide was knowledgable but quite gruff in her style.

  • Catania
We took a small group tour to Taormina and Castlemola with Sicily with Mario. Our guide Ignazio was fantastic and so knowledgable. We had a great day and LOVED the town of Taormina.

  • Corfu
We rented a car ahead of time. Pick up was easy at the port. Do remember your passport, as they wouldn't rent it to us without it even though there wasn't anything in the instructions ahead of time. It was fun to explore the island. We prepared our itinerary ahead of time, which was good as road markings are poor and the GPS we rented was useless. We can't wait to spend more time in Corfu.

  • Dubrovnik
Great Walled city that you can explore on your own. We bought the Dubrovnik card ahead of time, as the cost was a break even for the bus pass and the walls. I would not recommend this, as there is no TI at the port (even though they say there is) so you can't pick up the pass until you get to old town. Meanwhile you have to wait in a long queue at the bus station to buy a ticket to get into town.

Do pay to walk the walls, it is fabulous!

  • Korcula
Small little midieval, walled town with pretty views. Not much to do there but stroll, particularly on a Sunday.

  • Speed Boat Tour
We explored Kotor old town on our own and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Then we took a speedboat tour through Montenegro Submarine & Speedboat tours out to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks. This was a highlight of our cruise. Beautiful country and people.

  • Malta (Valletta)
What a great day in Malta with Amy Pace and our small group. Highlights included a tour of Valletta & St Johns co Catherdral, Mdina, the blue grotto and the Tarxien prehistoric temples. It was a busy day, but we really saw so much of Malta. Such a diverse and interesting place. We're looking forward to going back.

  • City Tour
What a fascinating city. We booked a walking tour with a private guide, Josko Zovic, who was so knowledgable and pleasant. It included a stroll and tasting through the local market, tour of Diocletian's Palace cellars & the midievel city, and a contemporary history lesson over lunch. It was fabulous. The city is quite a long walk from where the ship docks. Those with mobility issues or who tire easily may want to get the short cab ride.
