We chose this cruise as we wanted to travel to India, but were unsure about what that destination would be like, so we saw cruising as a safe and easier option (with the benefit of returning to our version of normality at the end of each day). It was a good choice. We could experience the manic chaos of India and enjoy the sensory overload that it is, and then retreat each afternoon/evening to our cabin for a hot shower, on deck for a drink, and to the air conditioned comfort we are accustomed to. Overnight in Mumbai was fantastic, as we got to experience the never ending energy that the city offers by going out to a restaurant for dinner then exploring night markets before retreating back to the ship. The other ports were also interesting, but India was our real reason for this trip. The ship and staff were great. We were lucky enough to score an aqua class cabin which meant we could dine for breakfast and dinner in the Blu restaurant. Very good service and lovely well balanced meals made it overall the best dining experience we've had on a ship. We went to the Qsine restaurant twice and that was outstanding. Usually we enjoy nightlife and music in the evenings, but we were so tired after each port day, we didn't bother this time, it was early nights most of the time. The shows we went to were very good and a good variation of acts. Our cabin was pretty standard balcony, which was more than adequate.

Nice Ship, excellent Itinerary

Cabin Review

Aqua Class Balcony
Cabin A1 9045
Pretty standard balcony cabin. Being Aqua we got nibbles delivered to our cabin every afternoon which was a nice treat at the end of the day. Also iced tea delivered every morning. There was an overhang from the deck above our balcony, which was fine as it shaded us from the hot sun when we went out, but wouldn't be so great on a cooler region of the world. Bed was reasonably comfortable.

We booked a tour via Viator before leaving home. Were picked up at the cruise terminal and taken into town where we got into our Tuktuk and had a tour of the city. The Tuktuk guide was a lovely young chap who went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Loved this city, it is so busy, vibrant and interesting. Not usually a temple/church person, but these ones were really interesting. We were there exactly 2 weeks prior to the awful bombing attack at Easter, so feel very sorry for the people affected and also those trying to earn a living in this place. Lots of sad sights of disabled people begging and a lot of poverty, but most people had a big smile and were lovely.

We didn't really rate Dubai. Although there was a lot to do, the place is a little contrived to us and felt like another version of Las Vegas without the gambling/boozing. As in Muscat, the place is dripping with money/gold but didn't feel real.

Hired a taxi/driver for the day and also went on a small boat cruise around the city waterways. Quite interesting. Then went for a city tour with our driver and saw the sights of the city. We didn't find this the most interesting place and probably wouldn't bother going there again.

This was the port we were really looking forward to and the overnight was great. First day we went on a very good ship tour taking us to see the lunch distributors, on a local train journey and to the giant outdoor laundry. Very informative and interesting. That night we decided to have dinner at a lovely Indian restaurant so went to the Taj Palace Hotel and had dinner at Masala Kraft. Best indian we have ever tasted. This hotel is worth checking out not only for it's history but it's stunningly beautiful. Day two we picked up a taxi to take us to the local market which we wandered through for 2 - 3 hours until we got too hot. It was a great way to see locals interacting and doing day to day business. We were the only tourists there, so got to see a bit of the real thing as opposed to something geared up for tourists. Loved this city, it really gets under your skin. Will definitely go back if we can in a few years.

Our guide forgot to pick us up so another guide kindly took us to the Grand Mosque where we met up with him. He gave us a very good tour of the mosque, the opera house and then the souk. He put such a positive spin on the culture but so much that I started to question it. Not sure if we got the true picture of the place or one for tourists only. The landscape here was jaw dropping beautiful with it's rugged mountains to the sea. Interesting place.

Grabbed a taxi and went to a beach just out of town. Huge waves, but exhilarating swim. We hired a beach chair and umbrella for a few hours, then taxi back into town and had a Thai massage which was pretty average. Found an open air bar and had a few cocktails before heading back to the ship. Good day for someone whos been to this place already a couple of times and seen all the sights.

Lots to do in Singapore, great place to wander around and explore. Enjoyed the garden domes and went to a fancy rooftop bar for a cocktail and to see the city lights at night. Found a great bar called Crazy Elephant for those who enjoy rock/blues music, resident band were brilliant. Don't miss the Muslim quarter especially the area around Arab Street, great little boutique shops and Mediterranean restaurants.
