Celebrity Millennium Cruise Review by jordywright
- Sail Date: February 2019
- Destination: Asia
- Cabin Type: Aqua Class
After an hour or so, our cabin was ready to be occupied. We freshened up before going on deck to watch the ship leave Singapore. We noticed that the cabin was very hot, so turned the air conditioning to cold. We also booked single beds and the bed was made up as a double, but the cabin steward did change this for us.
However on returning to our cabin, I found that the door would not lock. The cabin was also roasting hot and we had no bathroom shower gel or shampoo. There were also no towelling robes or tissues. Just minor things and eventually some shower gel arrived, but we had to wait 3 days for shampoo and tissues. We joined a very long queue at Customer Relations that evening and told them about the air conditioning and that the door would not lock.
During that evening we had to put a suitcase against the door as it would not lock. It was also so hot in the room that my husband went upstairs around 3am and sat on the deck for a few hours to cool down. I spent a restless night being hot and not happy that the door would not lock. Our telephone also did not work and so we could not arrange a wakeup call for our trip to Ho Chi Minh City. Luckily my cell phone did wake us.
On Tuesday 12th, I was so fed up with not sleeping at night and feeling exhausted that I wrote a note to Customer Relations. We would have liked to go on a tour that day, but felt absolutely shattered so did not book one. Quite a disappointment.
Later that afternoon, I had a message on a working phone (at last!) that Customer Relations were going to sort out the door and the air conditioning. 4 days later the door locked and we had air conditioning although it did not get very cool.
We also had problems with the balcony doors which were filthy and had been badly painted and wood shavings were in the runners. The balcony did not have a light fitting only loose wires. The Bathroom flooded every time we had a shower and there was a wet patch next to the bed, whether from the air conditioning unit above the bed or coming through the bathroom fitting I do not know.
On the first evening we did not have the next day’s programme delivered so we were unaware that it was a “Chic Evening” which meant wearing evening dress and a suit. After seeing everyone in their finery queuing for the evening meal, we had to go downstairs and change into evening wear. On the last day we did not have any disembarkation information so did our own thing when leaving the ship.
I do not feel that our cabin steward was the best, things were a bit slap happy at times, I know they have an awful lot to do and our bathroom was cleaned very well, but dirty glasses were not replaced and the canopies left had little flies on them. I am not sure how long they had been in the room so we did not eat them on any night.
On a positive note, the food in the buffet was excellent and we do not normally use the buffet on cruises but we were disappointed with the restaurant as the choice was very limited and quite often came out lukewarm. Where are the delicious steaks we have been used to on Celebrity we were looking forward to them.
The drinks package was very good and most of the staff were excellent. Ordering drinks took some time as it seemed to take the staff an age to tap in card details.
The refurbished rooms were attractive and comfortable. We recommend the Café al Bacio for delicious cakes and coffee and the Ocean View Bar, the waiters were great and the view superb.
Watching a film on the deck outside was also a good experience.
Ho Chi Minh City was worth seeing, very busy and hot, but it made us eager to learn more about the Vietnam War and the city’s history.
Despite the above comments, we would not hesitate to book Celebrity Again, we understand that problems occur when a ship has been in dry dock and completely refurbished.
