  3. Oasis of the Seas
Royal Caribbean - Oasis of the Seas 7 day Western Caribbean Embarkation - - Got there at 10:15 which was a little too early, but got checked in and had to wait 15-20 minutes to get on the ship, very easy embarkation process The ship - Oasis of the Seas. I didn’t know what to expect because the ship is expected to soon go to dry-dock for refurbishing. I thought the ship was is good condition and well maintained. Entertainment - Oasis has a multitude of entertainment venues. The water show is something that only Oasis class ships have and this show is simply amazing. The ice show is also very impressive. To put together a show centered on a theme and have skaters that can perform triple rotations and multiple combinations all while on a moving ship is amazing. The Opal Theater is a large 2-floor venue. The show “Come Fly With Me” is a production show including elaborate sets, singers, dancers, silk flyers and many flying other flying effects. This was a great show. They also had a headliner show which was the outstanding rock band called Private Stock. This was a rock and roll concert that had us singing from our seats and dancing in the aisles! The show “Cats” was the premiere show of this Oasis Class ship. While the set, the costumes, the acting, and the lighting were all impressive, the show was a disappointment to us and many others. I really felt bad for the cast when well over half of the crowd left at intermission! Why? As a retired music teacher, there is nothing more important than excellent diction so that everyone can understand the words and follow the plot. While most soloists had good diction, when everyone sang together the diction was terrible. It simply could not be understood, both because of lack of diction, lack of synchronization, and a poor balance of sound of voices and sound track. This story is very difficult to follow anyway, so many people were disappointed!! Other Oasis class shows such as Grease and Hairspray are fun and easy to follow. This show simply is not a good entertainment choice for the typical “cruisers”. Windjammer buffet - They seem to have a nice variety for breakfast and lunch. (never ate dinner there) The way they have the area laid out makes it seem less crowded. I was upset to learn that they close up the Windjammer and Solarium at 3:00. Why not close one side of the marketplace for an hour and then open that side for dinner at 4:00 and close the other side at 4 and open for dinner at 5:00. Also beware, many restaurants, including the buffet close at 8:30 pm. The only thing open is Sorrento for pizza! Main Dining Room - The food on RCI main dining room has been sub-par compared to other cruise lines. Steaks usually come out over-cooked, salmon comes out dry!. We ate in MDR 6 times and only 1 or 2 meals met expectations. The service on MDR is not what it should be. The servers don’t offer fresh-ground pepper, many times we had to ask for cocktail sauce with our shrimp cocktail, Baked potatoes don’t come out with butter and we have to ask for sour cream. The vegetables are scarce with every meal. Two slices of carrots, or two slices of zucchini! Chops Specialty Dining - This is a top notch steak house and much more, Food and service was top notch. So they can prepare steaks, just not in the MDR! We also had a lunch in Giovaninni’s! This was another awesome meal with great service. Very generous portions and very tasty! Excursions Labadee, Haiti We always enjoy this port, excursions are not needed here because beach chairs and all food is included, ample shade if you want it so umbrellas are not needed, first beach areas are rocky so go on to the last big beach area, float mats can be rented, extra cost things - zipline, dragon coaster, these can be rented on coast or before hand using your ship card. There is an artisan’s market - in the building use your ship card or behind building with the locals with cash, the locals can be very aggressive!! Falmouth, Jamaica All Inclusive Blue Waters Beach Escape This excursion was disappointing to us. The information in the RCI website is accurate, but it is what you are not told that ruined it. First the truthful points : 1-The Beach is only about 10 minutes away, 2- they have lounger chairs and an umbrella for everyone, 3- You do get free unlimited drinks including alcoholic drinks, 4- There is a buffet meal included, 5 -There is a live entertainer. The areas that were not good include - 1- The beach is small and dirty with seaweed!, 2- The lounge chairs include some good fabric comfortable chairs, and many plastic extremely uncomfortable chairs, 3- It was a windy day which causes havoc with many of the umbrellas. 4-The meal included a variety, but not very good. If you are on the first bus load, you may get the best loungers in the best location. Otherwise, you may be 8 rows back on rigid plastic loungers. We would not recommend this excursion. Cozumel Deluxe Beach Break at Playa Mia. We have done this excursion before and it only gets better..yes, better!!! The bus ride is about 15 minutes from the dock. You will have a wrist band which gives you access to everything except for motored sports. What is included: A large beach, beach loungers (plastic), umbrellas, access to the water park which includes water slide, kids pool area and a large pool and hot tub. Large beach area and another pool. Free buffet with a nice selection and pretty tasty, free drinks including alcoholic drinks, Very nice covered seating area for eating, nice bathrooms, and foot washing areas, free life preservers, access to the water gym area, free use of kayaks, paddle boats, water tri-cycles, and small “hobie” sailboats. They will even take you out in the hobie if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself. We gave him a tip for doing that. All the workers are very friendly and helpful. They make several announcements when your departure time gets close. I would highly recommend this excursion. I wish the orchestra performed more times as a group. Only the brass and sax played on “Come Fly With Me”. I saw most of them perform dixie-land music in the Broadway on the final day party. On Harmony we enjoyed a fantastic orchestra in the Promenade, the theater, and other places. We like good music. Disembarkation- Be aware that you don’t choose your disembarkation time, they bring you the tags and your instructions the evening before the last sea day. At first we got the #55 with a 10:15 time. I went to the service desk and asked if we could possibly have an earlier time. They asked me what time and promptly gave me tags #20 for 9:15 time. This allowed us toe go to the MDR for an express breakfast at 8:00. We got done at 8:45 and our number had already come up, so we went directly off the ship without any waiting. We were at our shuttle at 10:00. This went very smoothly. Thank-you Oasis for a great cruise.

Great cruise with lots to do!

Cabin Review

Central Park View Balcony
Cabin 1J 11633
We have always had an ocean-view balcony but this time chose the Central Park view. The room was very nice with ample room. We had to really watch the curtains so we had privacy. The room was very nice but we will go back to ocean-view balcony.
