This was our first cruise with Norwegian and it will probably be our last with them. The service was ordinary, the food was worse and the menu never changed. The food ranged from good to very poor, To make things worse there was an outbreak of gastroenteritis and they started packing up three days before the end of the cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation were shambles and I hope I never have to experience anything like this again. The fit out of the ship we found to be tacky and not of a high standard. The shopping on the ship was ordinary (not that we expected much). Our suite was okay but not great and because it was forward facing we were unable to use the balcony as often as we would have liked because of the strong winds. We had the top Haven suite on the ship and wanted to dine in the Haven Restaurant but on the first day we had to wait thirty minutes before a table was available for us and at dinner time we could not get a table and we were told we could have a complimentary meal at a specialty restaurant as they did not know when a table would be available. It did improve the following day but you had to be satisfied with whatever table was available, something we have never experienced regardless of the level of accommodation we travelled in. The Haven Restaurant seemed to be short staffed compared to other ships and on one occassion my daughter missed out on breakfast because they took so long even though we told them we had to be out within 45 minutes because we were going on an excursion. To add insult to injury the Executive Chef tried telling me how to have my steak. Call me fussy but I like it cooked the way I want it not the way the Chef thinks it should be cooked. No, I did not have dinner that night. My daughter has food allergies and her choices were very limited. Entertainment ranged from excellent to average and but was fairly diverse. On the plus side our Butler and Steward were excellent and the Assistant Maître' D worked very hard in making our cruise as pleasant as possible. A very big thank you to them. The crew in general were very courteous and friendly including the ship's officers. We liked the fact that the ship's officers were always visible and were always interested in knowing how the cruise was going for us. This we believe to be a big plus. I won't say we will never travel with Norwegian again because never is a very long time, but it is more likely to snow in the middle of a summer's day in the Sahara Dessert than we would risk Norwegian again. This cruise did not suit us at all but I am sure that many people would love the Norwegian experience.
