  3. Celebrity Reflection
As we book our winter getaway in January we have learned from previous cruises that it's vital we choose an itinerary that goes down to the Southern Caribbean - the East/West itineraries in January may not be hot enough. This January 4th 2019 Reflection was perfect - the weather was hot starting in Fort Lauderdale and continued for every island. Embarkation in Fort Lauderdale was easy - we were in Terminal #25 that is the new Celebrity terminal. We like this itinerary as it lets you relax immediately once you board with 2 sea days, then 5 ports, then a sea day, then 3 ports (Aruba Bonaire Curacao) and 2 days at sea to relax for the journey home. Celebrity is our favourite cruise line and Reflection is my favourite ship in the fleet. Celebrity provides a level of "modern luxury" that can't be matched with other cruise lines while still providing the casual atmosphere of cruising (not the country club feel of luxury lines). The entertainment on Celebrity has increased dramatically the past 2 years which makes me happy. The crew from the Captain on down to every person cleaning were amazing - always friendly, always professional and always willing to fix any issues. We always choose Celebrity Select Dinning and we make reservations in advance - we were a group of 6 so this was necessary. We arrived @ 6:30 and our table for 6 was always ready for us. Some may want more flexibility - not knowing what time they will eat everyday but that flexibility may mean you wait in line. All the food was amazing including Oceanview, MDR, Tuscan, Murano and our new favourite Lawn Grill. The food was great in Le Petit Chef but I wasn't a fan of the 3D concept - it doesn't enable tablemates to talk (must be quiet) and I felt pushed out at the end with the "goodbye" animation. This was a great cruise. I strongly recommend any 14-night itinerary - I wish Celebrity would offer more 14-night cruises.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Verandah
Cabin 2B 6137
Verandah cabins on Celebrity Solstice are good but not perfect. The Solstice design put storage above the bed which doesn't work if you are not 5' 6" - i can't reach the cupboards and there are only 3 small drawers. I love the large washroom and storage in the washroom but wish Solstice class had more drawers.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Catamaran Sail
Lobster Lunch and Sail/Beach Stops. This was booked through Celebrity and Celebrity utilized Tropical Adventures - Mystic Catamaran Company. The excursion was very well done with all safety information provided plus tons of fun and great food.

  • Sunset Cruise
Booked this through Celebrity and would not recommend this excursion. Celebrity used Pelican Adventures. The crew did not provide any safety information so had their been a problem - 78 people had no idea where life jackets were or how to exit the vessel. Also one of the crew was completely unprofessional - trying to tell jokes and interrupting the fun the passengers wanted to have. The excursion was advertised and purchased a "Cocktail Sunset Sail" but the cocktail was nothing more than completely watered down fake rum. I suggest safety concerns in that none of the bottles had sealed lids so who knows what products were in the "rum". Passengers had 5-10 drinks with no alcohol effect at all. DO NOT BOOK THIS EXCURSION

  • Snorkeling
Best excursion ever - I booked us as a private group (14 people) with Silver Moon booking the Moon Dance power boat - luxury excursion. It was absolutely fabulous - literally living the dream of a luxury yacht for a day.

This was second time booking Woodwind and just like the first - they were fabulous. They have a new vessel and it was even better than 2 years ago. We also recommend booking Woodwind and you must book early.

  • Semi-Sub
This was a surprisingly good excursion. The crew provided all safety information and ensured that we saw fish as one crew person put on scuba gear and feed the fish so the fish are around the vessel. I would recommend this excursion for people that don't enjoy snorkeling or scuba but still want to experience some underwater adventure and see some fish.

  • Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Booked River Front Cruises. It is 1 1/2 hour boat tour of the Fort Lauderdale waterfront highlighting the million dollar homes and million dollar yachts. It was a perfect tour. The boat is perfect for viewing the waterfront and has open areas as well as covered areas.

  • Spices and Waterfalls
We booked a private van for 5 people with Mandoo Tours. Our driver/guide was Warner and he was great - knowledgeable about all the highlights and always added a personal story about growing up or living on the island. We had a more personalized tour of the spice plantation and that was great rather than being part of a large group

  • St. Lucia
The pier area has some decent tourist shopping and the walk to the straw market is literally 10 minutes. The straw market has cheaper tourist shopping.
