I enjoyed the family atmosphere. I always felt safe onboard and on shore excursions. I love that more is included and there were fewer add-on charges. If it were the only cruise line I have experienced I may not noticed how much extra service is included. One example would be shore excursions. On other lines I’ve just been given the vague instruction to line up on the dock. On Disney they send you to a lounge or theater to check in and have a cast member walk you to your tour guide. There are usually opportunities to buy water and/or a cooler. On water related tours I’ve never had less than 2 chances to borrow a beach towel from the ship and return bins near the gangway upon return. If needed, sunscreen and insect repellent are generally available. Upon returning to the ship, other lines have had ice water available and hand sanitizer. Disney had those too, but the water was a variety of flavor infused and they added chilled moist wash cloths on hot days. We did have one dock lineup with Disney. It was at a port where we had to tender and their meeting places were color coded covered areas with bench seating available. Excursions are not the only extra services found on Disney, just a good example. On another line we experienced being dropped off at a historic location and told to find a taxi home. We hope to sail this line many times in the future, but I’m sure we’ll sail other lines too. My favorite saying is I love Ruth Chris, but I don’t need it every time I have steak. On an average Friday night Texas Roadhouse is just right. All this said, I ‘m not sure it’s for everyone. There are pleanty of adult only activities and nightlife aboard, but there isn’t the party atmosphere I’ve experienced elsewhere. There are mixology classes and cocktails available throughout the ship, but it’s not a booze cruise. Entertainment could also an issue. Again, plenty to be found in adult areas at adult times, but the big “Broadway” shows are family friendly and feature Disney characters. I love that, you may not. A side note about my experience cruising in general, manage your expectations. Weather can cause issues on any ship. A rude passenger can happen on any ship. A cabin repair can be needed on any ship. Don’t let it ruin your trip. Also food, I’ve spoken to a few people who found cruise food disappointing. Main dining (included) my personal opinion is it’s comparable with what you would expect a wedding reception. Some lines, like Disney, do it well and others don’t. The point in the main dining rooms is to try new things. If you can’t decide between two offerings, order both. If you don’t like the new thing you tried, they’ll bring you something else. You can order as much as you like at no extra charge. That’s the attraction in the main dining room. You should expect fine dining on any line to be found in the specialty restaurants for an additional fee. Finally, I’ve found it’s more important to research by ship vs by cruise line. Picking a line is important, but ship and cabin amenities can vary widely with in each line.

Lived up to expectations

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Castaway Cay
Nice beach, great amenities, great food at adult beach. As with any beach, weather can limit ability to experience everything you would like.

  • Mayan Ruins
We chose an excursion that was a bit of an overview of the area. It was well done and as described. The “ruins” included were interesting, but small. To see the larger, more impressive ruins you have to travel outside the immediate area.

  • Dunn's River Falls
Found the bobsled superior to similar attractions elsewhere. I expected Dunn’s River to be a difficult climb and it was. The guides do go out of their way to help visors along the way. Expect not only steep slippery steps , uneven footing as well. Some sails pressure to buy photos and souvenirs.

Awesome but would have liked to ride more than once.

  • Saltwater Forest
Well organized and great guides. The saltwater forest did not appear that different than the mangroves found in Florida, but presented in an interesting and enjoyable way.
