Allure of the Seas Cruise Review by 2tix2paradise
- Sail Date: December 2018
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Ocean View Balcony
Embarkation was a breeze - very efficient.
My first impression was awe - the size was intimidating and embarking onto the 5th deck with all the stores gave me the impression of walking into a shopping mall. The Allure of the Seas is magnificent. Beautifully maintained at all times. I was impressed how often I saw crew members picking up trash, polishing, cleaning and tidying up at almost all times of the day.
We all quickly found the Solarium on the 16th deck to be our "go-to" place, for meeting our group, sunning and generally enjoying ourselves. The bartenders were wonderful. The fact that the Solarium was 16 years and older was perfect. Well done Allure/RC!
The Windjammer provided a huge selection of choices and some nice little surprises. I thought the food was quite good, and the view lovely.
The main dining room was a bit of a disappointment for me. I felt "cooped up" with no view of the sea. I could have been in a banquet room in any pedestrian hotel... The food was good on some days and not so good on other days. I would rate this dining room average. The service was very good though.
Our other meeting place was the Bow & Stern Pub. Again, the service was excellent.
We dined in 150 Central Park for the Birthday Dinner. EXCELLENT food and service. The tuna tartare was heavenly!
Johnny Rockets for breakfast one morning was a disaster - the food was dreadful.
Sorrentos Pizza was handy at all times of the day!
All of the bartenders at all of the places I visited were master mixologists, friendly, creative, patient and helpful.
Entertainment: We saw the Mama Mia production - very professional and well done! The comedy show was also very good - especially the 2nd comedian. We participated in several Trivia competitions (Brit from Norway is a HOOT!), the belly flop competition (hilarious), Karaoke, bingo, went to the casino and shopped! I think between the 18 of us we may have done 2/3rd of the options offered!
The Port and Shore experiences were too short - I think if I go on a cruise again, it will be to a destination to stay for a few days. I would have gladly given up the day in St. Maarten and the day in Labadee, Haiti to spend more time in San Juan, Puerto Rico - in which we only had 1/2 day!
Every evening before I went to bed I walked around the 16th deck. I loved being completely alone on that deck with only the wind and the sea.
Disembarkation was easy, we chose the "carry off your own bags" option and breezed through in minutes.
To sum it up, I had a fabulous time. It was exhausting but fun and I would do it again but with a destination at which to spend time.
