My wife and I have been wanting to go on a cruise for years but never had the nerve to go cold-turkey. A couple at church mentioned that they were going on their 4th Cruise and invited us to join them on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas. Our travel agent helped us select a basic cabin on deck 2 that had a view to the ocean. The room was about the same size if a typical hotel room and was adequate for our needs. We did read up on a lot for the Cruise Critic email that had many suggestions on how to make better use of the room. The magnets really made a difference. I even used one to hang my seapass when it was not around my neck. The dining was fabulous, we used the buffet for breakfast so we wouldn't miss our shore excursions. We utilized the MyDining, but make reservations on the first day so we would have the same waiters each day. Our waiters we the BEST. Agnelo (from India) and Alejandro (from Philippines) were very attentive. The choices of entrees were so good that there were times we could not decide which one to order, and Agnelo would order two entrees (or desserts) for us! As first time cruisers, shore excursions created a little stress. It was difficult at times to keep with our group (there were so many people on one excursion that they split up our group in 2 tinders and RC had a hard time getting us back together. We had also booked one of our excursions outside of RC and were fearful that we would not get back to the ship in time. It ended up that our worries were unfounded and we had a great time at port and had no issues getting back on board. In fact, the first day at port, there was a couple that was 45 minutes last and the ship waiting for them. We had such a good time that we are already looking for our next cruise!

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Jeep Tour
Loved out Jeep tour. The jeeps were not in the best of condition (definitely would not pass US safety inspection) but gave the excursion a flare of island. The small group allowed the tour guide personalize our experience.

  • Tubing
We preplanned out excursions before the cruise started and chose the tubing because we didn't know if we were going to be worn out on the third port-of-call. The tubing was nice, but it could have been just as good with it taking half the time that it did. Also, the guide kept slapping the water with his paddle to wake everyone up. The first couple of time it was fine, but after the 7 or 8th time it was a little over the top. Next time I will elect some beach time to relax.

  • Galveston
The process to board the ship was delayed a couple of hours due to the previous cruise departure delays. Was not because of Royal Caribbean but Customs.....

  • Dolphin Swim
This was the highlight of the whole cruise. I would highly recommend this excursion. We had the opportunity to actually swim with them and interact with them, which is more that the encounter where you only touch them from the platform. The only catch is that they don't let you take pictures and you have to purchase theirs for $70.00++
