Ruby Princess Cruise Review by OR_Cowboy_1952
- Sail Date: October 2018
- Destination: Pacific Coastal
- Cabin Type: Premium Club Class Mini-Suite with Balcony
The ship had just been in dry-dock and had recently been painted, cleaned, and some venues updated. As of mid-October 2018 Princess is in the early process of installing Ocean Medallion. They were starting to change out door locks as we disembarked.
We had a great cruise with one exception. We booked the Crown Grill for my retirement dinner. The appetizer and soup were wonderful but our steak, the 16oz. Beef chop (bone in rib-eye) was awful. It was pour quality, tough, and gristly. It ruined the meal and we left. They did deliver my special desert to our room and it was very good but...
Embarkation was a breeze except for being pointed the wrong direction for the club class embarkation waiting area. Club Class cruisers embark early with the suite and elite passengers.
We had been to Victoria and San Francisco several times so we just enjoyed some the city. The only hassle was immigration, it was done on-board ship after docking in San Francisco. We waited in line almost an hour to have our documents reviewed. Poorly planned and executed. Luckily we did not have any excursions planned so it was just a delay. We visited family in LA.
Disembarkation in LA was great but a little slow. No hassles.

San FranciscoSan Francisco is a spectacular city but be aware is it a real west coast city, panhandlers and 'interesting' people frequent the tourist spots. For $12 you can purchase a Muni transit pass (using the Muni Mini mobile app on your smart phone). You can use it to get around the city and ride the cable cars. The ship docks on the embarcadero and the historic "F" line streetcars run right in front of the pier. They will take you to the heart of the city. Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, and Ghirardelli are all close by but very touristy. You have got to try Boudin's Sourdough Bread, so GOOD!View All 312 San Francisco Cruise Port Reviews

VancouverVancouver is like a 2nd home to us. Have seen the city many times. It's a great city and area to explore, great food, diverse culture, easy access public transit, beautiful parks, and accessible nature. Just don;t bother with gas town except for a quick walk through. Be aware east of downtown is an area called East Hastings (street name), it's Vancouver's skid row. Stay away at night but people are harmless. If you only have a short time, do downtown, Robson Street and the West End and Stanley Park. If you have never been to the Pacific Northwest consider the Capilano Canyon in North Vancouver and/or the Anthropology Museum at the University of British ColumbiaView All 645 Vancouver Cruise Port Reviews

VictoriaWe have been to Victoria many times. The downtown is a wonderful small area worth a wander. We highly recommend Murchie's Tea Shop on Government Street, the craft find blended teas and have a wide selection of tea pots, cups, and accoutrements. If you only have time in town visit the Royal BC Museum, between Parliament and the Empress Hotel. High Tea at the Empress is amazing but spendy. The Empress is a class Canadian Pacific (railroad) hotel from the 1900s. If time permits consider a trip to the spectacular Butchart Gardens.View All 1,282 Victoria Cruise Port Reviews
