Trollfjord Cruise Review by Casagrande
We were on the MS Trollfjord in July for their seven day cruise north along the coast of Norway. We knew that it was advertised as the world's most beautiful cruise, but it was even better, if that is possible, and really exceeded our expectations. The coastline of Norway is unbelievable! It is so beautiful! If you look at the ships route on a map you will see that it rarely goes out into the open ocean. It cruises past hundreds of islands, along beautiful fjords, past villages and towns, or just random houses that are so far from anywhere. The water was always calm, so we never felt any bad ship movement. The ship stops many times but it was not even noticeable at night. Our cabin was on the 4th deck, in the middle, and we really liked that. It was never noisy. It had a big picture window, and two twin beds, one being a fold down couch, that were very comfortable. We were glad that we didn't pay more to be on the 6th deck, which is a promenade deck and people would be walking passed your window. Fourth deck is closer to the water which we liked too, having a great view. We would definitely stay on that deck again. The best thing about the ship itself is the huge top deck. This is where we spent most of our time. The views are amazing! The open sky and water, especially above the Arctic circle are so beautiful. There is so much room up there to take it all in. The ship also has the nice Panorama Lounge in the front where you can sit indoors and watch the view. Being outdoors, on the back deck was the best! Also, being able to walk completely around the ship on deck 6 was great. There was something new to see all the time, and being that it stayed light almost all night, it was hard to go to bed because we didn't want to miss seeing anything. We enjoyed the stops and went on two excursions, the Geiranger with Trollstigen Pass and the Birdwatching Safari. Both of these were excellent and we were so glad that we got to experience them. They were worth the cost. At the other stops we were able to walk around the towns and enjoy the sights. We liked the buffet at breakfast and lunch. Sometimes it was crowded and we had to wait a few minutes for a table, but there was a good variety of food and it all tasted good. At dinner, where there was a set menu and we had the later sitting time, we were able to sit by ourselves. It looked like most couples didn't have to share a table which was nice. The fish dinners were the best. If you wanted a snack when it wasn't meal time, you would have to pay for it in the cafe. It would have been nice to have some treats here and there, especially in the evenings, that were included in the fare.
It is an expensive trip, but it is totally worth the cost. Being able to be out in such a beautiful part of the world was amazing. Get your camera ready because you will take hundreds of pictures.
