MSC Fantasia Cruise Review by EAaH
- Sail Date: August 2018
- Destination: Mediterranean
The ship is good enough, clean enough, exciting enough, but nothing to blow you away. Embarcation and disembarcation in Barcelona was smooth and without problem. The cabin was quite large and had a comfortable bed. It felt like it was badly isolated however as we could clearly hear everythin our neighbours said and did in their cabins.
I have read other reviews here about the food and dining experience and sadly I have to agree with them. For me the portions size in the main dining room was ok, but for my partner, a tall and active guy they were too smal. The food was notthing special and could be warmer. I mentioned my alergy to nuts to our waiter several times, and still he brought me dishes containing nuts. Not good. In general I found that information regarding alergy was lacking. In the buffet restaurant a sign just said "assorted muffins" I picked up one that looked like a blueberry muffin, but that had nuts in it.
We ended up not eating dinner in the main dining room due to the portion sizes and my alergy problem and favoured the buffet restaurant. The food there was ok, nothing special.
The level of service was a bit confusing. Some were very serviceminded and some were just plain rude. Again I am used to RCCL service and it was nothing like that. When a waiter cleared our table in the buffet restaurant I said "thank you so much", he just looked at me like I was crazy. When we passed our cabin atendant in the hall I said "Hello, good morning" and he just looked down. Confusing and not what I am used to.
An overal problem for us was noise. The other passangers were really loud and not what we are used to. It might have been a culture problem (we are both Norwegian), but we were not comfortable with that. Language was also a huge problem. Very litle information was in English. All activities were in Italien. I do beieve the activities were fun, but we didn't understand enough to join in. The dance instructors were very good however. They really made an effort and did instructions in English for us. They were the best employees on the ship if you ask us. They tried hard to include us and were very sweet.
The ports were the best thing with this cruise. Amazing itinerary! I would specially recomend Genova. A beautiful city to walk around in. A true gem.
I would recomend a cruise with MSC Fantasia in the mediterranean, it is not bad, it is just different than other cruises.
