Friends had taken this cruise a couple years ago and recommended it. We were interested in all the countries and ports in the Grand European Adventure. We spent 2 days exploring Amsterdam prior to the cruise and I would highly recommend it. Viking did everything they could to make the experience enjoyable. Stein, our Program Director, stated on the first day that they strive to Beat your expectations..not Meet them. It showed in everything they did. We were met outside the ship at embarkation by the program director and hotel director who personally carried in our luggage and helped us get checked in. Pros: -Daily Excursions were great. Provided an overview of villages/cities as well as tours of the major attraction (castle/Cathedral). Set the stage for exploring on our own when time was provided. -Morwald Winery Tour - Amazing! Trinka, our guide was delightful, the winery and wine was fabulous. -Ship - perfect size. Loved that we were never 'sold' anything. There are no shops, etc on board. You simply enjoy your time on ship. The longships glide through the water and it is much more relaxing than I expected -Food - absolutely delicious. Very unexpected. Regional specialties every night. I have a food allergy, and Ivan, the Maitre d met with me every morning to go over the menu and guide me through what my choices were. They even offered to cook special items for me. -Wait staff - Very attentive, entertaining, They made each meal special. -Wine/Beer included with meals was a nice addition. Wine served was very good, and regional. -The lounge entertainment was really good. A husband/wife team who provided musical entertainment each day. During cocktail hour, they were nice background music and we could still enjoy conversations with our friends and not compete with them. The musicians they brought on board for our Austrian night were so fun and entertaining. -The nighttime tour of Budapest the last night was absolutely PERFECT. We got to see all of the city lights of the castle, parliament and everything. Such a perfect ending to a perfect cruise. Cons: -Our room. Although the room was more than adequate, we had a bottom level room with port hole. It was incredibly noisy. Woke us up many times in the night.

Cabin Review

Cabin 104
Our room size and amenities were nice. The bed had an extremely firm mattress so was uncomfortable. I would say our biggest complaint was the noise in the room at all hours of the day and night. We were woke up many times each night by engine noise and other noises.

  • City Tour
The tour itself was very good and gave us a great overview and time in the cathedral. Our tour guide however, spent most of the time giving us his political views rather than city history.

Morwald Winery tour was fabulous!! Trinka had a great relationship with the owner, and they did a great job of teaching us about the winery, history, and the wine. The wine is absolutely delicious!
