The fantastic TV advertising sucked us in. The Double Tree Hilton in Amsterdam --- the recommended hotel by Scenic, was too expensive for what it offered. Look around & find one which will give you better value for money. Don't fall for the butler service & bar fridge in cabin gimmicks. The bar fridge sounds good but you can be served drinks at any time on the ship. We didn't have one drink out of our bar fridge, didn't need to. The main lounge area was not big enough to accommodate all the guests who went to watch the entertainment & listen to the Cruise Director talk about the daily activities. Many had to stand at the back of the lounge up against the walls. The cabin was adequate. It was always clean & the bed was comfortable. The balcony, although small did provide a little extra space. Entertainment was just ok. Some of the local talent who came on board at ports were pretty good. Some were average. The on board Pianist Danny was pretty good once he loosened up & provided good music so we could dance & have a bit of fun. The staff were great. Our Cruise Director Nikola was very good & informative about all the tours & the ports we touched. Wait staff were good, especially Kinga. She was just a gorgeous, happy & hard working young lady. Nothing was too much trouble. The cruise was a great way of seeing some of the places. The tours were fantastic & well organised. The tour buses were comfortable & clean to travel in. The tour guides were very good. The tour of the windmills were great & the Clog making demonstration was very interesting. The walk through Cologne was good. In Freudenberg the Oktoberfest was a lot of fun. The Sound Of Music and Salzburg show was probably the highlight of the cruise as we experienced freshly fallen snow, a day or two old. Vienna was beautiful. The Viennese evening concert in the Palais Liechtenstein was lovely. Schonbrunn Palace was also lovely. The evening meals on the cruise were not the best. Sometimes the meat didn't seem like good quality & was chewy. Every night the soups were consommés (clear soups) which were like stock cubes in hot water. The chef was promoting his cook book & made a lovely chicken & veg soup as a demo. When asked if he would put that on the menu, he said he did not have enough people to chop the vegetables for it. Shocking comment & excuse!! Every night there was ONE prepared dessert, second choice was ice cream, third choice was "hand cut fruit". A total let down! We were told there would be seafood galore. Fish was available every day but for the 2 weeks we were on the cruise, we had ONE PRAWN. I REPEAT ONE PRAWN PER PERSON! This was at Portabellos. There were no oysters, mussels etc. The second last night we had a lobster tail. It felt like Christmas! Don't know if the budgets were cut or if it was the chef on board. Whatever the reason, it would have been nice for Scenic to follow up on our survey & give us some sort of explanation. We have been on 8 ocean cruises the last one being in October 2017, four months after the Scenic cruise & the food on those ships, which were different cruise companies, we cannot fault & it costs a fraction of what we paid on Scenic. We filled out the survey on board & on our return we spoke to the W.A rep for Scenic (who took all the details). They all seemed very surprised & shocked at what we told them & were going to get back to us. We even said we probably would not go with Scenic again & to this day 9 months later, we have not had a call, email or ANY acknowledgment of our disappointment with the Scenic experience. VERY DISAPPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST! 5 star luxury cruise? Definitely not on the cruise we were on! The evening meal is usually & should be the highlight of cruising where people go on tours during the day & come back to the ship & get dressed up for a lovely dinner. Not on Scenic Crystal! We talked to a lot of people on the ship. Some were first time cruisers & thought it was lovely, some like us were not too impressed. A lady from South Australia who had been on the Crystal once before, said this cruise was not as good as the previous one. So something has gone wrong & we would be interested to know what that is. Like I said earlier, the cruise, the staff, the tours were good but the evening meals has dragged a good cruise experience down & it definitely was not "Five Star" as advertised.

"Not Five Star Luxury" and the evening meals were a let down.

Dear Wilains, Thank you for your review and I am very sorry to hear that this was not the five star luxury cruise you were expecting. The evening meals you described does not sound like the usual standard that is served on board our ships. To help our Customer Care team follow this up for you, would you be able to email your contact details through to customercare@scenic.com.au We are pleased to hear that you thought our staff were great and you enjoyed the well organised tours, particularly the Sound of Music show in Salzburg. Best regards, The Scenic Team
