only reason we chose this cruise is to piggyback on friends' trip. Overall the trip was good, but could have been much better if systemic details were handled better. The ship was clean, the cabin and food staffs were excellent and attentive. The itinerary covered lovely cities and countryside and for the most part we had great weather. What could be improved? The cabin (veranda) was on the small side; there were only 2 power plugs for American electrics/electronics and none in the bathroom. So to dry hair or use an electric shaver you had sit at a small desk. The biggest bug for us was that the key to the cabin stopped working at least 10 times for both my husband and myself, so we had to go to the reception desk continuously throughout the trip. At first we were told that we were putting the key next to a phone or iPad. the key was reprogrammed then stopped working within hours or days. Sometimes it stopped after one use. We asked to be relocated or fix the problem after a 3-4 trips to the reception desk or to fix the problem once and for all but that didn't happen. It was a real downer to keep going, stand in line, and explain to the various staff members what's going on. Must have spent at least half a day on this issue. Towards the end of the trip, a manager owned up that it wasn't our fault and that they have a system problem. This was also corroborated by the fact that other passengers had a key issue but not to the same extent. Not fun. The saga continues. When the bill came, there were several entries for drinks and food that should have been covered by the "classic" drinks package, that were billed, I assume because the key wasn't working at the time. I asked for these additional amounts to be removed and was told that they would be. I haven't checked whether they were as yet. The food was Ok with some meals that were good/very good and one that was actually excellent. The food service in the dining rooms was very attentive. The self serve buffets were efficient and had many stations and servers and overcrowding was minimal. The ship was being continually cleaned and serviced. It is old (2001) but well maintained. On the whole, we thought that the trip was overpriced. Some of this was on us as we should have not gotten the drinks packages at $1816 for 2 people but paid for drinks individually. We have 1-2 wine drinks each per day and a couple of lattes.

Great service from staff and many systemic hiccups
