This is our second time to cruise with Silver Seas we sailed through the Panama Canal in 2010. Our experience in 2010 was the reason we sailed again in 2018. In 2010 we were treated as if we were royalty. In 2018 we were treated as if were a step above common folks. We were not treated to a similar 2010 experience not even close.
We were on a tour in Boston to the JFK Library and the tour guide asked how many people would recommend Silver Seas and no one raised their hand. His comment was he would buy everyone a second desert that night, no one laughed.
Let's do the math we we stayed on the 9th deck with a veranda for 11 nights it cost me approximatly $675.00 a night and my wife $675.00 or $1,350.00 a night. This did not include our airfare to and from or our tours.
The ship met us in Montreal we stayed at the William Gray a boutique hotel in old Montreal for $400.00 we spent an average of $300.00 a day on food and drinks and our accommodations and food was outstanding. $700.00 verses $1,350.00.
On our 2010 cruise our butler serviced three cabins on our 2017 cruise our butler serviced 15 cabins. My wife was never escorted to dinner this year. I'm not saying our butler performed poorly this year this year to reach the butler I had to use the telephone I called and he promptly responded. In 2010 I didn't use a telephone to reach the butler the butler anticipated our schedule that year.
Breakfast was great every day plentiful with too many selections tasty along with excellent servers. Lunch on the pool deck was fantastic along with exceptional service. Dinner on the fourth floor was average often I never saw anything that looked appetizing. I did see hamburger offered twice each night. I did have a few good meals. The service was uneven servers were assigned many tables and as a result servers over served dinner tables often stumbling over each other and asking redundant questions. It appeared that they couldn't determine what color of wine I was drinking. I thought they knew what color of wine I was drinking by the shape of the wine goblet p, but they couldn't.
I wii say eating at their Italian restaurant was excellent and if you do ask for Davide our favorite server, he made us feel special. After all isn't that what we all want!
Wine selections were great. Liquor selections were old fashion especially in their tequila choices. Nothing special. Oliver in the bar was outstanding.
On my first cruise in 2010 I was given a special kitchen tour because I had charged my trip using my AMEX Platinum card. The chef told me he could get me anything I wanted with 24 hour notice. This year I decided to put him to the test. I asked for frog legs I was told they would check. I was told no frog legs. I didn't feel special. I thought the ship hadn't made port in Halifax, Portland, Maine or Boston surely in one of those ports they could have found frog legs!
