Celebrity Summit Cruise Review by IrishMis
- Sail Date: September 2017
- Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation very easy. Had done this itinerary 6 years ago and hesitated to go back to Bayonne but were pleasantly surprised.
We were in an inside cabin this time because we didn't book onboard last time and thought prices stayed high a very long time. And all the OV were booked. But we knew it was port intensive and deck 3 is excellent location especially after touring all day. We are Elite Plus so have had a wide range of cabin experiences. The room size doesn't change except for the balcony space till you get to suite class and furthest we go is AC. Interestingly, all the sea days were foggy, rainy or cold so we felt we didn't miss much this time around. The port days were gorgeous so it was a big win. Still love the drink vouchers and use them every night and varying locations. I liked the new furniture in Aqua Spa but their food has changed and not for the better in my opinion. They took out the big cold water containers on each side of the food line in AS which is another cost/service cut i guess. I used to enjoy those.
Liked our table mates and waiter in MDR so dinner was pleasant. Ate in MDR for many more meals than we do on Solstice class just because the buffet area was always so crowded partly due to weather outside. Fist time i have seen them pull tables from Sunset Bar area into walkways in buffet area but it worked well enough. My only food "requirement" on a cruise is variety and service. I thought several of the soups we had were same menu item and just as good as what we have had in BLU. However, I do love fish in most restaurants but i find X to be sub par in that area. In my opinion, best sweets/treats on the ship are in Bacio which we visit often, even take one of their danish to breakfast in MDR.
Highlight of the cruise(besides skipping FL in Sept) this time was Captain Alex. X has many personable and capable Captains but not sure we have sailed before with Captain Alex. His energy, enthusiasm, wit and commitment came down through the ranks from our perspective. I actually checked my watch daily to make sure I didn't miss his funny 10 AM announcements. A first for me!. He called himself the FUN Captain. He gets my vote as well. Sunset Bar staff was outstanding and wish X rotated a bit more entertainment out there.
We used to look forward to being on ships for the production shows. Sadly for us that is no longer the case. This cast had no singers whose words we could understand. We did enjoy the guest entertainers very much. Disembarkation was a breeze, We did walk off and were outside at 8:30.
