All and all it is was great cruise, there were a few missteps along the way but nothing major in my book. Ship was overall very clean, our cabin was spotless, and well cared for. Overall the ship could use a bit of paint touch-up here and there, but it all works fine. Dining seemed to be kind of hit and miss, Cagney's was better than average, but I've been to better steak houses. La Cucina was a pleasant surprise, food was great, service was even better. Moderno was a disappointment, food was pretty much all overcooked, and service was incredibly slow, cocktails from the bar were pretty much undrinkable due to a heavy handed bartender. Both main dining rooms were average, one waiter in Indigo was well a jerk, good thing the assistant waiter more than made up for his bad attitude. Buffet was well a buffet, and about what you'd expect, although sitting in Great Outdoors was great. O'Sheehan's was good, unless you just wanted something sweet after the buffet closed up, then again it could have been just the waiter having a bad day. The thermal suit part of the spa should stay open a bit later, especially on an Alaska trip, and the water could be a bit hotter, but that's more personal choice than anything. I didn't find the heated lounges to be very comfortable, although my wife loved them. Shore excursions were all pretty good, the only disappointment was the bus showing up late for the Mendenhall river float in Juneau, threw the whole day off. I think we'd all like to have a bit more time in each port, but there are schedules to keep, so I get it.

Pretty damn close to perfect

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin BB 10012
Nice cabin, short walk to elevator's and stair's, pretty much the same as all balcony's on Jewel class ships I suppose. Very quiet no noise whatsoever outside of the normal sound of water as the ship moves forward.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Mendenhall Glacier Rafting
This was a great excursion, but if you don't deal well with wet and cold it isn't for you, because you will be both before the end. Saw quite a few eagles along the river as an added bonus. It's not a lot of white water, but it is enough to get your blood pumping.

May have just been poor timing, but didn't see a whole lot of eagles on this 3 hour boat ride. The excursion was advertised as a heated interior and open deck, thankfully we had great weather, because there was no heat on this boat. They did mostly deliver on their claim of a lighthouse totem's and eagles as we did see all three along with one whale and a few seals.

Small disappointment here, I had thought the trip was round trip on the train, turns out we did the first half in a bus. Being over 6 foot and it seems like most buses are not designed for anyone over 5'8" leg room wise it was a challenge. Overall the experience was very good, just not what I thought I had bought. The train ride itself was great. There is so much to see along the route, that it is truly an experience for everyone. Just thinking about building the rail road, and the hardship's endured by those who made the trek prior to it being built makes you proud of what can be accomplished by humans when we put our minds and backs into something.
