Amsterdam Cruise Review by rkacruiser
- Sail Date: July 2017
- Destination: Alaska
- Cabin Type: Large Ocean-View Stateroom
As usual, an outstandingly friendly and helpful crew.
MDR service was excellent and cuisine was good to excellent.
Pinnacle Grill continues to disappoint me, but Canaletto was excellent.
The ship was well maintained with appropriate temperatures in all venues. Dry docking is needed to update the facilities, however.
Trivia is "king", but many enjoyed the new addition in place of the Culinary Arts Center. The addition of BBC Earth to the programming reinforces the HAL movement to programs designed to appeal to guests who are more "destination oriented" than in the past. The EXC Guide provided more detailed information during her talks, both in the Showroom as well as when we were in very scenic areas, i.e. Hubbard Glacier. Maps and information provided in the staterooms, however, are lacking--which they have been for some time,
Entertainment included a comedian who I did not think was funny at all to one who was hilarious. The Band in the Crow's Nest and the Trio in the Ocean Bar were great. Cast shows, from the ones I did attend, were well done. And, of course, the Indonesian Crew Show was very enjoyable.
Sailing from Seattle through Puget Sound and the Straits of Juan de Fuco provides memorable views.

I embarked shortly after 11:30 A. M. Staterooms are supposed to be ready at that time. Was was not. More work needed to be done within the room. But, others on Dolphin Deck experienced the same delay. I put my carry-on in a closet and left the stateroom to get out of the way of the Stewards. Really not a problem, but unusual.

Float PlaneFloat plane to Taku Lodge for a Salmon Bake flying over 5 Glaciers. A bear made its appearance at the Lodge to lick the drippings from the grill where the Salmon was cooked. A great shore excursion!View All 83 Float Plane Reviews

KodiakThe tour that includes the Russian Tea was a very pleasant one. It is operated by a local woman in a mini-bus and allowed us to see much of the town as well as hear her stories of life in Kodiak,View All 45 Kodiak Cruise Port Reviews
