We were initially looking for a trip to Bermuda when we found this cruise and it seemed to be heads and tails above what we were looking for. To be in Canada (Halifax) for Canada Day 150 and Boston for the U.S. Independence Day (241) just seemed like a great experience to be had and we were not disappointed. We are Diamond members with RCL so we were automatically Elite members on Celebrity. Although there were some minor issues, the overall trip was outstanding. Our cabin was clean and comfortable. We read reviews that were less than favorable prior to the trip but we have absolutely no complaints. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom as well as the cabin were clean, thanks to our wonderful room attendant, Annie, who was a 15 on a scale of 1-10. The shower was hot and more spacious (although still small) that a comparable cabin on RCL. The water pressure was also good. The food in the Oceanview Café was good but the organization was not as good as RCL. Some areas were open and others closed but you had to walk the entire area to find out which was which. There were some stations that had long lines as well. We had breakfast in the Oceanview most mornings. The eggs were hot and good but avoid the chicken sausage. I tried it to be heathier but switched back to the pork right away after sampling it. I'm a grits fan and I was thrilled to see that they were on the menu, but the consistency can be improved as they were a bit runny each morning. The burgers and dogs at the Pool Grill were excellent but the lines often moved slowly as the crew had to put the meat on the bun as the food was ordered. The system could be improved, especially during the busy times, by just putting the burgers and the dogs in their buns and putting them out for people to take. This would speed things up greatly. The reports of passengers being hounded to buy the beverage packages were accurate. For the first several days of the trip, whenever we did order a drink or bottle of wine, we were looked at like we were second class citizens for not having the beverage package. It was simply much, much, MUCH, too expensive for our drinking habits but were easily asked over 100 times if we wanted to purchase it. Thankfully our wait staff did not push the issue although one Sommelier did. We chose the My Time schedule the Main Dining Room (MDR). We made our reservations in advance and we were seated immediately each night after approaching the hostess. Not an issue. The food for the first few days seems to be better than RCL but it became more bland a few times later in the trip. Celebrity did provide lobsters for us one night and they were decent, but a little small and they did not seem fully mature yet as it was very soft compared to a more developed beast. Most of the appetizers were very good although one night I ordered two and they were both very skimpy. Our servers, Randy and Elena were excellent. Randy made several good recommendations and had a great attitude and demeanor. Not bad for a guy from "South Philly" (Philippines). Patricia in Guest Relations was outstanding in taking care of a problem that we had that was not resolved by the first person who handled it. I can't say enough good things about her except to say Thank you very much! You were busy with a passenger and had a line waiting when I tried to thank you at the end of the trip. The Tuscan Grill was phenomenal. Best specialty restaurant we ever experienced and well worth it. Just come with an appetite. Michael, our waiter, was superb and his service impeccable. Can't wait to do it again. Sushi on 5 was also very good. Izumi on RCL is probably the better experience but I really enjoyed the food here and the service was very good as well. We did the Celebrity Excursions in each stop except Boston. They were all very good. The Coastal Photography Tour in St. John's was our favorite. In Halifax, we did the Peggy's Cove tour that included the "hop on-hop off" bus but we skipped the hop on part of the tour as we were on the bus for quite a while to and from Peggy' and traffic in the City for Canada Day was heavy, and there were only a couple of places we would have liked to have seen and they were a distance from the main part of downtown, so we skipped it and walked the waterfront boardwalk instead and really enjoyed it. The process for the excursions could have been better in a couple of ports but they were very easy in others. The lines for the tenders to return to the ship in two ports were very long. The ship's staff and crew were outstanding. Captain Kate was the most visible, outgoing, and personable Master of the Ship that we have experienced and we appreciate all that she and her crew did to give us a great vacation. We even enjoyed the F-O-G in a couple of ports and admire the conditions that the staff had to take the ship through at times. My wife also tried acupuncture for the first time on the ship. Marina was very patient in explaining the process and did an excellent job in taking care of a sciatica problem. Both of us were curious about it but this was the first time either of us had tried it and it worked well. My wife is still without pain several days after it was administered. There were some minor issues. There were more whiners on this trip than others we have taken, especially in the MDR because of seat locations. Gosh those people were obnoxious. We were really happy on the nights they were seated somewhere else. And while most of the people we met were very nice, the snob factor was present among many and fueled by the ships staff at times in the way some folks were treated. Overall. a great trip and we would recommend Celebrity in the future, but our next trip will most likely be on RCL, but we do look forward to cruising with Celebrity again. Oh, the jogging track....this is an accident waiting to happen. The track is on deck 11 and unless you use it very early in the morning, it becomes a challenge due to the number of people casually walking along without any idea that people are using it for exercise. People also put the back of their lounge chairs down and they extend out onto the track. I'm a fast walker but others actually jog around the track and are constantly taking evasive action to avoid a collision with another person or a piece of furniture. Better signage might help in keeping people informed that there are other uses for this area than just walking in la-la land.

Cabin Review

Ocean View 6
Cabin 06 2147
Nice. Clean and comfortable. Two beds were put together to make one but it was not an issue as it was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the shower was a little larger in size than what we would have in a similar room on RCL. The water pressue was good but not great but no complaints. We were very comfortable and can't say enough about Annie, our room attendant.

  • Carriage Ride
Nice leisurely trip around the park followed up by a trip up to Cadillac Mountain for the views. We would have liked to have gone to Thunder Hole also but it wasn't part of this trip.

  • Peggy's Cove
Peggy's Cove was wonderful but would have liked to have had a couple of hours there instead of just 45 minutes. The "nop on-hop off bus was also included but we didn't take that apart of the tour due to the traffic in Halifax for Canada Day.

Best excursion that we took. The weather was damp and foggy and we loved it. Great opportunity for some different photos. The tour director was a professional photographer who offered some great trips. Saw waterfalls, a working dock, the reversing tides, and a beach.
